Yeah, the US seems to be capped at 2,000 feet with compounded FAA and FCC hurdles. Anyway, there's a rumor floating around of a new proposal for a 124-story tower downtown. Sooner or later Vegas is going to get much taller.

There are observation towers too numerous to mention that outstrip everything around them. I don't see anyone crowing over the Guangzhou TV tower, or the approved Sumida in Tokyo. But to this day forumers poke fun at Taipei 101. They are held to a different standard, evidently. Why don't you understand that?

EDIT: followed by a predictable response

This design of the tower will be changed for the better. I am sure something is in the works. Not sure if the FAA will have an impact.

I think so, I haven't heard anything prohibiting that...

It seems odd to me that a 124 story tower gets announced and no one on SSP has said anything about it other than mentioning its announcement...

Bear in mind that it's part of one of several competing proposals for a stadium complex. According to the article, we should know in a matter of days.

REI Neon, the company that wants to build the $9.5 billion Project Pulse, will be chosen as the city's preferred downtown arena builder. This is NOT the company that proposed the 124-storey building.

Obviously, the Las Vegan who posted the info was a little late on the trigger then.

The Town Advisory Board has been telling people who are interested in attending the "LV Tower" meeting on July 18 that it has been postponed again until August 22.

WTF ?! How many postponements does this make ? And why should anyone get their hopes up about an August 22 meeting ?

It won't be much different, you're right. Substance (the details... the street-level... ) matters little in Vegas. It's all about hype.
You're referring to something it can't be, it's not an urban skyscraper. It's another hype device (such as Paris LV, NY NY hotels) they use to attract more fanny-packers from Ohio.

It's actually in the Township of "Winchester", which is just North of the "Paradise" Township. Desert Inn Rd. is the dividing line.
