I guess that this is sort of infrastructure related in that CBC Winnipeg has reported that the City of Winnipeg has been cited by Health Canada for using expired malathion to fog for mosquitoes.

Apparently the solution can't be more than one year old and the city was using some that was over 13 years old. This is part of the inventory that they bought from the Saskatchewan government in 2003.

13 years old. Wait for the lawsuits to roll in.. If that's actually the case, it's a huge public health issue. Spraying chemicals 12 years beyond there usable life. Imagine getting a prescription and the meds were expired by 12 years.

Seeing that the product is actually intended to kill, what's the risk?

Well I guess. Maybe it degrades into some other form of chemical that is more harmful?

Sort of infrastructure, they do use our roadways to conduct the spraying..

This concerns me more...

Malathion 'probably carcinogenic' to humans, WHO agency concludes

Quote:
An agency of the World Health Organization says malathion, an insecticide used in Winnipeg to kill adult mosquitoes, is "probably carcinogenic" to people.

The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), a specialized agency of WHO, announced Friday that malathion and another insecticide, diazinon, have been classified as "probably carcinogenic to humans."
The term "probably", concerns me some what, no?

Image added for effect..Why do they ask you to close your windows when spraying if it's 100% safe? hmm

Caffine is listed as "probably" carcinogenic as well. It's the dose that makes that makes the poison.

^ Fair enough, at least they have a buffer zone, where you can make the descision whether you'd like a dose of malathion or a cup of coffee...

Gee CoW, thanks for poisoning us...

And so it goes...

So what does CoW do with the leftovers? They can't dump it in one of the Rivers.

Nice vid! One can only dream that all of Manitoba gets 12 new overpasses built in such a short time frame like with Regina's new bypass:

Yeah I was driving through there about a month ago, crazy amount of construction but it's supposed to be complete Freeway leading into Regina, so it should be nice. I've seen some of the conceptual videos.

What a great job!

My wife noted that she played that Beethoven song on one of her piano exams.

And Regina is spending close to $2 billion for a south by-pass around a city of 200K!

^To be fair driving through Regina to go north to S'toon or west is one of the worst experiences a Canadian traveller can have.

There really only two lights in Headinley that really stop you, and not usually for very long. Going around it is also in the mid future plans

Actually it is 5 lights and on top of it a 70 kph speed limit that is well enforced so in other words just as bad as Regina and not a road any city with 800,000 plus should have as a major thoroughfare.

No kidding, some things in Winnipeg progress, others just stay the same since the 1960's!

For a city and province that touts itself as the trucking capital of Canada you think major roads would at least be to 80's or 90's standards!

I didn't say there was only two lights. I go through quite regularly. Only the first light and last light change to red on a regular basis. The others seem to be use activated.
