also i think its called Lucky donuts has opened in main street at 13th - and accordign to a friend who tried it has amazing donuts - i guess its comparable to Voodoo donuts in portland - the pics i've seen of the donuts look so yummy if pricey

See my pic above. It's inside 49th Parallel.

Weren't you also obsessed about Red Burrito a few years back?!
Is it a Mexican bean thing?

Speaking of Mexican, I tried the new(ish)Taquiera on Cambie/Broadway. It's fantastic. Now I understand why it is packed every single time I walk past it.

There's another new place next to it - I think it's called Mooii. Like an Asian cafe. Gorgeous venue, but worst service I've ever experienced. I'm clearly not their target demographic.

Speaking of obsessions I admittedly have a thing for Mexican food as well. When I first arrived in London 8 years ago there were only tex-mex places, but now the burrito scene has exploded. I keep finding new small local chains, but keep going back to Chipotle... their chicken is consistently tender and flavourful.

The last time I was in Vancouver I went to Red Burrito and was quite disappointed. But if anyone has any recommendations please advise.

I really wish I'd bought Chipotle shares a few years ago...

It's the new 49th Parallel and their "side business", Lucky's Doughnuts (note Canadian spelling ).

Definitely some enjoyable doughnuts... I've so far tried a Salted Caramel and a Peanut Butter & Jam. Still itching to try the Bacon Apple Fritter.

How do they compare to Cartems? Their saltspring coffee donut is one of the best I've ever tasted.

La Taqueria is the only Mexican place I would recommend in Vancouver.

Both locations (Hastings or Cambie@Broadway) are equal in quality. No burritos though, only tacos.

There is a great Mexican restaurant in Langley downtown (along their old strip) probably the best in the metro.

I'd call Chipotle more Californian than Mexican, but no matter, I still love 'em.

+1 on La Taqueria for sure.
Salsa & Agave in Yaletown is decent, but skews more to the sit-down meal kinda thing.
For something different, check out Las Tortas on Cambie for Mexican sandwiches.

They have another place on W Broadway west of McDonald-rarely see anyone in there and it's closed @ odd hours.

I don't see how they make any money and now a new place?

Is this how money laundering works?

Apparently Aquariva (at the foot of Howe St.) is being completely rebuilt and will feature an extensive patio. Haven't heard if it will be a chain or independent.

Will be interesting to see how it does vs the new Cactus Club, as it has arguably a better location from a pedestrian traffic perspective.

The whole 200 Granville lobby is being redone and Aqua Riva is being replaced by an operator who has not been released yet.

Will be upscale fare and yes there will be a new patio on the NW corner.

Lolita's on Davie at Jervis is pretty good Mexican too. Their specialty is soft-shell tacos...the cod and pulled pork are delicious!

Don't forget Dona Cata's on Victoria Drive.

That place seems like the real deal to me.

Anyone been to the relocated Aki restaurant? Haven't been in the area to check it out. Wonder if it has any of the old ambience, or if they've gone clean slate.

Talking of restaurants near Waterfront Station...
Remember Rogue restaurant? Wasn't that there for about a year then it disappeared?

Well I just walked by Broadway/Ash and that SW corner location has sat empty for about 3 years when a high-end audio/video place relocated. It's now going to be Rogue.

So direct competition for Cactus Club across the street - and great for the growing number of office workers there at lunchtime.

Rogue is still in operation at Waterfront Station.
