"Santiago is a pretty sophisticated city with sensible walkways and a grid-like road system making navigation a dream"
"Chile has a European feel about it with it's modern foundation having been blanched from the colonial Spaniards who conquered Chile in 1541. Surprisingly, there is a far stronger German influence present. Much of this comes through in the food (including kuchen and strudel!), beer, place names and the peoples' appearances. Later when stumbling into a town's anniversary parade the uniforms of the military, police and fire brigade, in fact the whole parade mirrored something out of 1930's Germany!"

"Santiago is a beautiful modern city and there is real wealth here. There are very rich people, but unlike Brazil there are not the same extremes in that sense Chile is more like the UK. The majority of the population are comfortably middle-class and sharing, however limited this may be on a personal level, in the countries prosperity.
They seem to be fitness crazy here from aerobics in the parks to cyclists everywhere."

"We`ve mastered the metro in just one day. It´s slick, modern, clean and very efficient. Some of the stations have archaeological displays (like the metro in Athens), most play music and all are orderly and easy to board the swift, comfortable trains. We feel like experts already!"

"Santiago is a world-class city: European-style avenues and buildings, an impeccable metro, pleasantly verdant sidewalks, fabulous restaurants, and - most importantly - a consistently well-educated and courteous population that seems proud of the country they have built (justifiably so), without being boastful or arrogant. The Andes loom in the distance, humbling even Santiago with their size and terrifying beauty. "

"We strolled through the city which was much more modern that we had expected. Nice and varied architecture, not too crowded, and a very safe feeling."
