We stayed in the Harrahs Waterfront tower last weekend ( the new tower) and it was amazing. It looks like they started construction on the Revel 2nd tower. The 1st tower is just about finished. We didnt head down to the boardwalk due to the Cold weather.

In some news, the crane on Revel collapsed and fell over from the strong winds of the Noreaster rain storm.

I honestly think that AC needs to diversify it's economy away from just a casino/resort type, to one mixed w/ a seaport, light industry, agriculture, energy, and high-tech. The current format for AC as just a gambling spot should be considered over, especially since other states (PA, DE, and NY), already have casinos or are planning to build casinos.

Also, thinking about AC, it's current land area is 11.4 sq mi (2009 pop.35,770). The population in 2000 was 40,517. In comparison to other NJ cities, Jersey City has 14 sq mi (2009 pop. 242, 503), Newark has 23 sq mi (2009 pop. 278,154), and as far as smaller cities are concerned, Union City has 1.26 sq mi (2009 pop. 62,715; 2000 pop. 67,088 all time high) and Hoboken has 5.1 sq mi. (2009 pop. 41,015). Other than the fact that it's in South Jersey, which is the least populated area in NJ, my question is why the city gov't couldn't grow AC into a major city in NJ in comparison to Jersey City, Newark, and even Union City and Hoboken, especially w/ it's fame as a gambling and tourist mecca of the East Coast????

A little suggestion: I believe that AC can be successful w/ a Sea World, and maybe a theme park nearby. Also, it should consider purchasing the islands west of AC for mostly residential, but also for industrial and port use.

The Federal Aviation Administration Technical Center employs several thousand people at the airport in Atlantic City. These are all good-paying, stable jobs.

The owner of the Revel Casino has raised the remaining $1.15 billion required to finish the casino and New Jersey will buy a small share for $261 million. According to Governor Chris Christie, it will be completed by June 2012. Hopefully it won't turn out like the Meadowlands Mall Project...

Anyone have any new pictures? I'm really curious about the Revel. Also, any chance that MGM's Mirage can come back to the proposal table? That casino looked sooo sick. Any pictures around Atlantic City would be even better. Thanks, it's much appreciated.

MGM is essentially banned from New Jersey, so there is no way the MGM Mirage is coming back.

MGM Mirage to sell stake in New Jersey casino

MGM Mirage (MGM.N) said on Friday it will sell its 50 percent interest in the Borgata Hotel in Atlantic City in a settlement with New Jersey, which objects to the casino owner's partner in a separate venture in Macau.

MGM Mirage said it will cease business as a gaming licensee in New Jersey, if the settlement be approved by the New Jersey Casino Control Commission.

The settlement comes after New Jersey gaming regulators questioned the suitability of businesswoman Pansy Ho, MGM Mirage's venture partner in Macau, where MGM plans to conduct an initial public offering later this year.

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie enacts Atlantic City 'boutique casinos' bill

Atlantic City’s next casinos may be small — but they will carry great expectations of success.
Gov. Chris Christie signed a law Wednesday evening allowing two smaller-size casino hotels to be licensed in Atlantic City. The pilot program, under a bill championed by Sen. Jim Whelan, D-Atlantic, means applications can be submitted immediately for the two casino licenses.
Interested developers include Hard Rock Cafe International, which has discussed building a $450 million casino in line with its themed restaurants.
The proposed casino hotels must offer a minimum of 200 guest rooms, rather than the previous minimum requirement of 500.

That's too bad. The renders for MGM's casino were salivating to look at. Hopefully another huge casino complex similar to that can come soon. Thanks

Update on the future of Trump Marina...

CasiNotes: New owners of old Trump Marina plan pricey renovations
By Chuck Darrow
http://www.philly.com/philly/enterta...novations.html
Quote:
SINCE THE sale of Trump Marina to the company that owns Golden Nugget casino-hotels was announced a couple of weeks ago, the questions we've been asked most are: What changes will come once the deal is closed? When will we see them?

This is what we know: Landry's Inc., the Nugget's Dallas-based corporate parent, has announced a $150 million renovation and improvement program on top of the $38 million it spent to acquire the long-struggling (and mostly irrelevant) bayside complex. The plans call for:

_ Five new restaurants: Chart House (likely heading to the space long occupied by the Harborview, which boasts the greatest views of any Atlantic City eatery - a panorama of the Boardwalk skyline); Red Sushi; Lillie's Asian Cuisine & Noodle Bar; Grotto Italian Ristorante; and Vic & Anthony's Steakhouse.

_ Two new bars, Rush Lounge and After Hours.

_ A poker room (the property's first go at poker since it closed its operation in the mid-1990s), keno lounge and race book.

_ The H20 Pool and Lounge, featuring all-season hot tubs and fire pits.

_ A new spa.

_ Rehabbed hotel rooms, showroom and other public spaces.

From all reports, Landry's is determined to have the makeover completed by the end of this year. It expects to close the deal sometime this spring.

At least in Southbridge they just told me to "Get the fuck outta here white boi!"

It's too bad there aren't many pictures of Southbridge or the bucket before they knocked them down. They were morbidly interesting. Did you happen to get any more pictures of Westside, particularly hilltop or 4th Street? I grew up there, and I kinda miss watching people fight and get busted by the cops out my window like when I was a kid.Either way, great set of photos
Well the "Projects" in Riverside and South Bridge are still there till this day, I seen them with my own eyes this week,,,

Its 2011 people and what has really been done to help the city of Wilmington?

Live from Google Maps...

So I just tried using google maps a few days ago. My friend had put me on http://earth.google.com but i had never really checked it out like that before. Its crazy how http://maps.google.com/ can take you anywhere, which is great for Navigation but terrible for Privacy and almost some 1984 Big Brother stuff. Anyway in light of The Royal Wedding yesterday, which the media just had to put in the face of all Americans that watch TV almost saying "Yes Kings & Queens still rule you all". Today I will make a post to bring out awareness of the opposite of Royalty which can only be endless Poverty. If you feel the need to bring awareness to any of your local areas that need the most help just on google maps and hit the ( PrntScr ) button on your keyboard to save a pic to your computer so you can post a trouble spot in Delaware.

There are Hood's all over this country but you will see in the pics that some are alot worse then others. Some factors to include are Decay, Drug Spots (no posting pics its not the same as snitching), Infrastructure (failure), Murder Rate, Ect. It could be anywhere from Trailer Parks, Ghettos, The Slum or just areas that lost manufacturing jobs and the town went under in only a few years.

I was out here and just wanted to show yall & City-Data.com what it is like...

AECOM to Build First U.S. Offshore Wind Farm

Atlantic City Property No Longer a Hilton

According to the Press of Atlantic City, the Atlantic City Hilton Casino Resort has lost the right to use the Hilton name. As a result, the property is now calling itself "ACH" in its promotional literature and on its website. A spokesperson for Hilton Hotels & Resorts told the newspaper Thursday that the chain has ended a licensing agreement that allowed the property to use the name. "It's not recognized as a Hilton," the spokesperson said. "If the agreement is terminated, the property can no longer be part of the Hilton brand." The 804-room resort was the biggest money loser among Atlantic City's 11 casinos; in 2010, it reported an $18.9 million operating loss.
Atlantic City Council removes hurdles for Hard Rock casino project
http://www.pressofatlanticcity.com/c...cc4c03286.html
by Derek Harper, July 22, 2011
Quote:
ATLANTIC CITY — City Council approved changes to the Gateway Redevelopment Area at its meeting Wednesday night, clearing another hurdle for the Hard Rock casino project in an 8-0 vote.

The city initially approved the plan in 2006 with the goal of helping a previous proposed development that fell by the wayside when the economy declined.

The changes to the redevelopment plan were mostly technical, generally conforming the plan to the Hard Rock proposal. For instance, proposed widening of Trenton Avenue and Lincoln Place are eliminated in the plan.

The Florida-based Seminole Hard Rock Entertainment Inc. has proposed taking advantage of new state small-casino legislation to build an 850-room casino at the foot of Albany Avenue and the Boardwalk. The project would start with a 200-room hotel, adding a second, 650-room tower later. The $275 million casino would open in spring 2014.

Do not have any pictures but they are planning to open on May 15, 2012 I believe. They have a countdown clock on the website http://revelresorts.com/

I will see if I can get some pictures of it next time I in AC.

A summary of Philly Inquirer's coverage of Revel

A.C. revelry to herald Revel opening

Quote:
Atlantic City's biggest and most luxurious casino yet, the $2.4 billion Revel at the northern end of the Boardwalk, is to begin an eight-week-long preview for guests April 2.

The giant casino-resort will open its doors to the public with a lavish grand opening May 25 to kick off Memorial Day weekend. Revel announced Monday that Beyoncé will be the opening act in the casino's state-of-the-art, 5,000-seat entertainment venue, Ovation Hall.

On Tuesday, members of the news media were given their first tour of the inside of a casino that has been highly anticipated by the city.
The Big Gamble: Revel Casin

ATLANTIC CITY - This town isn't Las Vegas, but the $2.4 billion Revel Casino wants to take visitors there with A-list entertainment, posh rooms, and celebrity-chef restaurants in a luxurious setting where the champagne and water in 10 swimming pools are always flowing.

The 20-acre resort - draped in silvery-blue reflective glass - literally curls to and fro like the ocean it embraces. Many see Revel as the lifeline for this down-on-its-luck gambling mecca in need of a revival.

As the 12th casino - the first built from the ground up since the game-changing Borgata opened in 2003 - Revel plans to move Atlantic City from primarily a day trip to overnight market that caters to leisure and group guests, conventioneers, and, of course, gamblers.
