^^^That's ironic that you compared that to Gimbels. TBH, the first time I saw the rendering, Gimbels came to mind. The curved corner, the awnings, etc. The curved glass and the lighting behind the glass looks cool But the thing that took away from it? The number 8. It reminds me of Motel 8. I didn't like the"Gimbels" sign either. The Gimbel's building had much more "character". I know I'm coming off as a very negative grumpy old man, but I love Philadelphia. I was born and raised here my entire life. I just think Philadelphia "settles" for 2nd best. Breaking the height limit was the best thing Philly could have done. As a result, Liberty Place is a timeless beauty, and is well known, globally. Why can't Philadelphia get something that "WOWS" us?

Don't be "grumpy", grandpa!

Modern buildings are trending these days.
The bonus in this tower is that it's taller than Gimbels was.

hammersklavier, Thank you.

I do see that the tower is different on the East and West side. I do not like that.

What do I need to do to get Gimbels back? My grandmother loved that store.

The building is ugly as sin, their financial projections are off and the developer doesn't have the greatest track record. That about sums it up.

I'm generally against casinos this close to where I live and work because of my experience with AC and Vegas... but this proposal is really growing on me. I think one tasteful casino in a high density area such as this will not have some of the negatives we see in AC. Also, I definitely think this would help revitalize the Gallery which desperately needs it. It'd be nice if this area could turn into a shopping and dining destination for convention goers.

My two biggest concerns are that the design of the east side of this building is terrible (like others have said) and the effect this will have on Sugar House. Sugar House is a flop already, but add this and it goes under in a few years. With the size of its parking lot that's going to be a big hit to the Northern Liberties waterfront area. With that said, to hell with Sugar House.

As for the stadium casino proposals, I'm 100% against them. I see more Sugar Houses there and nothing more.

Financially Sugar House is not a flop. Allowing the casino to be built in stages was the worse decision.

I thought Sugar House was doing fine. In fact, I kind of remember maybe 6 months ago or longer, a nice big fat check for like (800G's?) was handed over to the city for area improvements. Call it bribe money, if you will, but at least it is helping the city, not hurting it. Of course, the improvements would benefit Sugar House too. Helping with the reconstructing of the ramps near Girard, Aramingo, and Richmond Sts. for one. Yes, to direct more traffic into the Casino's directions, which is fine by me. At least traffic hasn't been a major disaster like many predicted. It seems to be better, actually. To be honest, I have not been to Sugar House yet, nor will I ever go, only because I realized I had a gambling addiction, and will not go in one ever again. But I'm still good. I didn't sell my house or my first born. I just don't enter the Casino. Simple as that. But I am for helping the city, and this may be a good way to go. You can't close every bar in the city, just because one person is an alcoholic. It's up to that person to realize him/herself.

The tower I like, but I've always been pretty ambivalent about the casino. Plus the design is pretty cheesy, if you ask me. If the designers can make a better proposal, then to development should be a go. But the developers need to incorporate the building to the Gallery in some way, meaning expand retail space, connect it to the subway station, and proper lighting along 8th and Market St.

The tower is pretty good. But there needs to be better use of the development than just plop another casino in Center City. I would love to see Market8 get connected to the Gallery and Market East Station, as well as an expansion of retail space. The building in general needs a new design. It looks too cheesy, even for Market East!!!!!

Time to move this thread to cancelled? The proposal did not receive the second casino license, so this is pretty much dead no?

Unless the developer has a Plan B already in motion. Let us wait and find out.

This is dead as a doornail! Developer does have a Plan B but it would be a completely different proposal and likely a year or two out.

This did not win the 2nd Casino License. It's dead. Moving to Cancelled Projects.
