I-10, Pontchartrain Expressway Construction...

Driving along I-10 next to OPP, I have to believe that the construction must be associated with the lane reconfiguration...

2000 Oretha Castle Haley Blvd·New Construction

Type: New Construction
Applicant: Adrianne Gaudet
Status: Application Submitted
Date Filed: 8/27/2014 12:00:00 AM
Closed: No
Description

Construct a “food court” (Fast food restaurants) as per plans: 6 vendor pod kitchens, 1 commercial kitchen, and a courtyard with outdoor seating.

A food truck plaza for OCH? I like it! Downtown Austin has them, Portland has them, and now we're getting one blocks away from the old Calliope?! Who would have imagined that pre-Katrina?

Our airport is on a roll, hopefully we will soon be celebrating the arrival of British Airways...

No clue the permit shows a building renovation that will look like the one on the site but the plans make no mention of tenant. Tenant usually applies for their own separate permit later on for the interior build-out and an additional one for exterior signage. That said Ive never seen an architect rendering using the name of a large retail tenant without their consent. Could get sued for that. So I guess time will tell!

Plans:

Founder of Dat Dog to open burger and hot dog joint in Mid-City
http://midcitymessenger.com/2014/09/...t-in-mid-city/

Quote:
Now, Murray is branching out once again to open Dis & Dat, a new burger and hot dog joint that will start serving dishes in Mid-City as early as this week. Slated for a “soft opening” on 2540 Banks Street this Tuesday, the location will offer “the best hamburgers and of course the best hot dogs to be found in the Crescent City,” Murray says.

“I want it to capture the best of Dat Dog with the best burger I can do and still keep that New Orleans feel that exists nowhere else but here,” Murray says. “I love being in Mid City. I think the whole city is heading in a direction I could not have imagined.”

Damn, eightball beat me to it- we never could figure out what permit in the 2500 block was for, I guess we know now.

Also, thanks for the post about the N Broad Theater on your blog (tennis); do you have any more info on it?

I spoke with a friend who is a local associate store manager for JCrew and they didn't know anything of it. They are putting a Madewell in Lakeside and a Mercantile store in Lafayette though.

Who knows though? Maybe this is before the local management would even know something since they don't even have build out permits yet.

I knew someone who worked there, the renders that included the J Crew were an attempt to entice the owner to pursue a more a contemporary storefront. The client objected, hence the plans Tennis posted with the canvas awnings and EIFS cornice.

At least they tried!

I dont think the new rendering is too bad at all. Its relatively modern and fits well. Will be a huge improvement over what there now.

Well J Crew Mercantile is actually a lower priced version of J Crew so perhaps that is what they are showing.

Yeah you right.

That part of Mid City is starting to get some nice development, likely driven by the hospitals getting close to opening.

The residential neighborhoods over there have also improved greatly.

I bought nearby in 2011. All but 2 properties on my block have changed hands since then; 4 in the last 6 months. The Mid-City boom is no myth.

Smoothie King Center Updates

Tennis,

From my vantage point, the Smoothie King Center renovation doesn't look as ambitious as the rendering below. I know it's a work in progress, but do you know if there were any changes? Thanks!

In a nutshell, it will look nothing like this.

Here is what is REALLY happening.
