There are plenty of parking lots and tear me downs all around town where they can build condos. I don't see why they had to go on the side streets of Lower Town.

I could see folks from DFAIT snapping up condos at that location. Especially those facing the park and river.

This is nothing compared to the VIU on Laurier St.

Recommended change to thread title

The project is 5 storeys. It's under construction (as noted by Rocketphish) and it's called "Waterstreet". The thread title should be updated.

This project has come under fire for causing serious damage and grievances to neighbouring homes.

Citizens for Responsible Development have created a blog documenting the mess with videos, which I recommend you visit.

Below is an image from their page about how the house shook so much the ceiling caved in. They also report the construction crew illegally ripped off the vapour barrier from their foundation walls.

I never commented on this project simply because it didn't interest me. I don't particularly like the building's design or location, and this doesn't endear me to it.

That's insane!! I never liked this project and this makes it even worse. And even worse than this, the current councillor was not able to have any voice on the project since he is in conflict of interest with any Claridge development! This could have been an amazing development, instead it's turned into a sham.

Holy crap. Someone please tell me that Claridge is financially responsible for fixing all the damages. If they're not, legislation needs to be amended immediately to ensure that in any future like scenario the builder is responsible.

They're not going to have nice backyards, though...

I'm wondering about what this could mean for the building on Norman, in Little Italy. Could something like this happen with the houses near that building? We're certainly not unfamiliar with destruction during construction (Tribeca damaging the office building on Lisgar, Centropolis knocking of the brick veneer of an adjacent home).

OTOH, Domicile managed to build 131 Holland without causing any damage (AFAIK) to adjacent properties. From Google Maps:

As far as we're aware, the vast majority of projects probably don't have much significant damage or any at all, but it does happen. Oh, apparently the LRT construction has led to some damage in Fusion, from what I heard.
