The Changing Chicago Skyline

With skyscraper construction in Chicago now impacting the skyline again, starting with Trump Tower, I started taking pictures to record the progress. Eventually I'll compile them into an animated sequence.
These panos are taken from the roof of a parking garage at Western Ave and I-90. For those not familiar with Chicago, this is the view of the camera.

9-8-2007

11-24-2007 - The watertower didn't disapear, I just started editing it out.

1-19-2008 - New camera, so zoom level doesn't quite line up.

2-16-08

3-16-08 Sorry about the off color middle section. The photos today didn't quite meet in the middle.

7-1-08

I plan on taking one photo a month while buildings are rising into view and I will post the updates here.

Man, now that is a skyline. I love how there's bundles of skyscrapers around the big three in Chicago.

I thought I'd cross post here for archiving the very nice rendering addition Ryan81 did to my picture, showing a completed Trump Tower, along with the Chicago Spire, Waterview Tower, and the planned Waldorf=Astoria supertall.

I really have to take another trip to Chicago. Last time I was there was 1989. Next time I go, there will be alot of new skyscrapers around.

Best Buy parking garage? I use to work around the corner, and I lived on the other side of the freeway. I miss Chicago.

No, the K-Mart/AMC Theatre one on the west side of Western. It's taller, and free for the first 30 minutes.

Trump should start making a big impact by this time next year. It's amazing how fast it's risen since I was last there in August.

Also cool about Chicago, although not evident from this angle, is how lakefront Grant Park is quickly becoming surrounded by skyscrapers with the south end filling in nicely. It's pretty cool to see such an impressive skyline get bigger each year. I would love to see more buildings along the south end of the Chicago River, I think that's one of the most unique aspects of downtown Chicago: the river skyscraper canyon.
