Ok but The floorplates are all the same size and it's basically all the same clear glass and spandrel and painted concrete (grey). However, The west village 6 project was a nice to surprise. We were all shocked on the height of the podium (thinking it must have been a typo) but that's the kind of difference that's nice to see

Edit. Yes anthem does look interesting

Fencing was put up around that part of the station this week on City Parkway. Seems like it may be imminent now. Only 8 months behind original schedule (Fall 2016) and 2 months behind their revised scheduled start (April 2017) announced at their press conference in March.

New video featuring the emerging West Village neighbourhood and 3D renderings of the City Centre was just posted by the City of Surrey.

Many buildings shown are conceptual placeholders, many known under construction / proposed, and others oddly missing (Prime on the Plaza). Still a nice video:

https://urbansurrey.com/2017/06/02/w...otional-video/

Oddly the rec centre is still shown in this 'future' image above, when it's well known that it will soon be torn down to make way for an expanded plaza. Also Prime on the Plaza is missing and shown as a grass field next to SFU.

Translink is involved so we'll be lucky if completion is only a few years behind the original schedule.

Wonder what the timeframe is for relocating the buses to 103 and extending 102a through the bus loop- are they going to do that once 3CP and the station reno are done, or will they wait until the parking lots are redeveloped?

I'd bet they will wait for the station reno to be done as its part of the plan for people to flow in and out of it. without the reno everyone trying to go would crowd the side walks walking to the bus stops on central ave(103)

This SFU building is a nice combination of modern and 60s educational.

Needs a little more splash imo. A plain grey is just so sterile... Even different shades for each wall panel would make a huge difference and liven up the look. Other colours or materials (e.g. our favourite wood) would help as well with the contrast.

^That is not a rendering from the architect. All the buildings in that video have a muted grey tone..

The actual renderings show the building with a bluish tint to the glass. Will have to wait and see how it actually turns out. I'm fine either way though. Looks good to me as depicted in both.

Interesting how they have a 'First West' Credit Union branded office tower shown on the former Brick site north of 104. Wonder if there is any substance to this..

From Wikipedia: "First West Credit Union is the third-largest credit union in British Columbia by asset size following Vancity and Coast Capital Savings."

Maybe a third Credit Union headquarters could be coming to Surrey after Coast Capital and Westminster Savings.

LOL is this satire? Promoting "the strip" being the place to live.

I laughed a little until I took a moment to remember the human element not just in Surrey but going on throughout Canada including Surrey (2nd highest overdoses in BC) and Vancouver (highest overdoses) where people are actually dying.

Unfortunately I think people (including these satirists) forget there are real humans here and that it isn't the cities failing them but rather the entire system especially at the Provincial and Federal levels in this country and even in the United States.

It also reminded me my family needs to do another run to the strip to donate a few bags of clothing to the homeless there.

Can the strip be moved to somewhere else? Like, can that be moved to some camping sites?

Like Hastings Street in Vancouver, the "strip" is an unhappy coincidence of proximity to a downtown and a street with low and even neglected economic value.

Just like Hastings street where residential pressure is pushing the good folks east, in time when the "strip" starts to be the only remaining large block of empty land, developers will move in and the inhabitants will leave.

Where, you might ask? Well, they all used to be on 135A street around the sky train until development moved in. So they all found the "strip".

Whatever fits the definition of a) proximity and b) lowest economic value will be the replacement for the strip sometime in the future.

Thanks for this.

Posted these a while back (can't remember where). Looks pretty much the same but the illustrative plan is easier to read and visualize.

Looks like a lot of rooftop greenspace.

I thought this was to be Surrey's downtown and this looks suburban (just based on the site plans)
