Honestly, I cringe whenever someone says something great about Vancouver on this forum, because although they are meaning well I know that the trolls will jump on it as soon as they can.

If someone posts something very nice about Toronto or Montreal and how it is their favorite city in the country, I don't have that feeling to quickly post about their negatives afterwards...

Now, if they are doing so but directly comparing / referencing it next to another city (therefore putting another city down while propping their favorite up) then that understandably is a cause for debate.
Exactly, what wrong with people saying something good about their city That's a good thing

Oh come on, my comment about a decent winter wasn't cruel. Most people probably consider Vancouver's winter to be about the best in the country. I just want my six months of snow.

Yeah, that is part of personal preference. I don't really consider Vancouver's winter to be the best in any metric. Victoria's is the warmest and is quite sunny by comparison, so there's that adendum to the "no snow" argument. I imagine that most, or at least a massive portion, of Canadians enjoy having a couple months of snow though. However, in Vancouver, at least you only need to drive 15 - 30 minutes to be in amazing alpine winter conditions with world class skiing options.

What a collection of pathetic hypersensitivity. Somebody asks a question, gets answered with factual responses, albeit ones they don't want to hear, and suddenly the thread degenerates off topic with the usual whining about how everybody hates Calgary, or Vancouver, and Toronto has to be the centre of the universe. Grow a pair or shut up. I come to this forum to discuss skyscrapers and related topics, but am getting more and more put off each day by the childish immaturity displayed by many frequent posters.

I love Vancouver as a city, but that doesn't mean I can't say it has unrealistic housing prices.

Mods, perhaps this thread could be cleaned up and the off topic comments removed? Including this post as appropriate. Thank you.

The Turn/Trump and FIVE condos turned out fantastic. The Turn should be a super tall.

Taken today, Bay Adelaide East:

Here is a nice shot of Trump going up with 745 Thurlow in the foreground.

Kinda wished Trump wasn't as closed to Shangri-La.. Those two beautiful and tall towers should be admired seperatly, not together. And it would've balanced the skyline more if there was more distance between them.

What about that other building in construction in the fore-front, what is that? how tall? renders?

That is the office tower 745 Thurlow, not sure what the final name will be at this point. It will be 91 meters tall. Close in height to the residential tower to the left of it. It will make a nice transition from the low rises along Robson to the skyscrapers along Georgia.

Here is the rendering:

Also from other angles there is a lot more separation between the two towers. I think they will look good relatively close together. I like tall clusters.

I still find it interesting, I love watching towers constructed of steel go up and it's so rare to see in Toronto.

Toronto posters are so hard on their projects . More than any other city in Canada. It's actually funny.

It's not a bad thing to be hard though! I really like how Aura has turned out, but since you now have the height factor going on, it would be good to see developers try to be original with their projects. Too many new Toronto towers are boring or just plain ugly (Trump). Some of them do impress me though, such as Theatre Park and L Tower (except those awful vent fans which ruined it)... 88 Scott and One Bloor are interesting too.

A really simple, yet elegant modern tower would be Shangri-La in Van. Man, do I love the looks of that one.

I'm not being hard on this project. It is one of the best in the city.

I was just bored with the construction, because I saw bay Adelaide 1 go up between 2006-2009. Its exactly the same.

You should check out the Vancouver forum. It gets pretty ugly in there too.
