I read this article in the Trib this afternoon: http://www.sltrib.com/sltrib/politic...outes.html.csp Doesn't sound like there will be a new "black line" starting before the end of the year.

At the Harmon's Transit Update last week, one of the UTA guys said he heard the line previously known as the Black Line would now be called the Crimson Line. I guess no BYU grads will be riding it.

Crimson and Red lines? That might be slightly confusing since both go to the university and are similar colors.

What an absurd choice. Crimson is just an unwieldy, two-syllable monstrosity of a line name.

UTA should stick to the primary colors first:
Red, Blue, and Yellow.
Then start using the secondary colors:
Violet, Green, and Orange.
Before they start using different shades of the same colors.
That's six different colors..

Even Crayola know better with their basic box of crayons.

They should just rename the line to Sandy/Draper the Claret line. They can all be various shades of red.

The burgundy line
The red delicious line
The fire brick line
The auburn line
The rose line
The rust line
The magenta line
The vermillion line
The raspberry line
The terra cotta line
The red-violet line
The tuscan red line
The scarlet line
The ruby line
The rosewood line
The flame line
The amaranth line
The cardinal line
The carmine line
The watermelon line
The strawberry line
The chestnut line
The electric crimson line
The blood line

Since we're already venturing into different shades of red for line names, I thunk ut is logical to assume they plan on exhausting the shade and building an incredible amount of reddish hued transit routes. Rejoice urbanists, rejoice!

I like the "Blood Line" for the route between Daybreak and the U because it passes several hospitals.

Wonderful game-day service that UTA is providing on Saturday, y'all. FrontRunner and TRAX will be running after the game.

Essentially, if you're traveling toward the U, Daybreak, or Draper, transfer at Murray. If your destination is along North Temple or downtown, transfer at North Temple FrontRunner.

Quote:
The BYU vs. University of Utah football game will kick off at 8:15 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 21, at LaVell Edwards Stadium. To help passengers reach the stadium, FrontRunner trains will run every half-hour between 4:09 and 6:09 p.m. on Saturday afternoon. Trains before and after that time will run on their normal hourly schedule.

UTA will offer direct bus service from FrontRunner stations to LaVell Edwards Stadium. Route 830 will service the Orem and Provo FrontRunner Stations, as well as the Timanogoes Transit Center next to the University Mall in Orem.

After the game, UTA will extend service to help riders return home. Bus service from LaVell Edwards Stadium to FrontRunner stations will be offered for 30 minutes after the game. FrontRunner trains will run to Ogden. Select late-night TRAX service will also be offered. FrontRunner passengers transferring to TRAX will need to board TRAX at one of the following two stations:

Murray Central Station – Passengers can access Blue or Red TRAX lines. Blue Line trains will service TRAX stations between Murray Central and Draper Towne Center stations. Red Line trains will service TRAX stations between Daybreak and University Medical Center.

North Temple/Guadalupe Station
– Passengers can access the Green Line. Trains will service TRAX stations between West Valley and 1940 W. North Temple. Trains will not run to the airport.

So I had a quick conversation with the City's Transportation Director. They have been working on restoring TRAX service from the University to Downtown without changing trains. They have been working with UTA, the Chamber, and the University. They recently applied for federal help using CMAQ funds. These funds are transportation funds that must be used to help improve air quality. The project was awarded funding BUT they are programmed for 2019. They are currently working to move up that timeline. So I guess that's good and bad news.

I'm assuming that entails an extension of TRAX on 400 South from Main Street all the way to SLC Central Station, thus creating a transit loop

I doubt that, as the 4th S extension is just an idea, we'll see downtown street car well before the 4th S Loop. Personally I would rather see extended service hours and the addition of either a SL Central to University or Airport to University line.

The 2019 date has nothing to do with a TRAX extension along 400 South. The federal funds that were awarded and are being utilized to pay for additional trains along the existing tracks from the University to Downtown are not programmed until 2019. That doesn't mean that other groups couldn't fund it prior to that but the Transportation Director wasn't sure whether or not that would happen.
