BVictor1 thanks for the fast update. Can I ask you if those panels really look so grey and not beige in person?

Are these any "cheaper" than the panels going up at No.9 Walton?

I believe 9 Walton is using precast limestone vs OBP's precast concrete so yes OBP's would be cheaper and more stark looking. Since cast limestone actually contains limestone it has a more natural look rather than a concrete + pigment mix. That ugliness under/above the windows is what irks me most. Opinion only since I don't own a unit.

Actually concrete doesn't just "contain limestone", it is chemically limestone. The hardening of concrete is actually a calification process identical to what creates limestone in the first place. The difference is concrete tends to be extremely uniform (since we need to mix it that way to make it strong) and natural limestone has strirations and imperfections which patina over time.

Also this is probably more expensive than what they are putting on No. 9 Walton as there is significantly more and deeper detailing. That, unfornately, does not make it "better". They are probably spending more money making fake limestone blocks and on that fugly trim around the windows. Meanwhile No. 9 has minimal detailing and is not trying to fake being actual limestone blocks. The difference here is in the skill and taste of the designer, not the material.

I like it. Has an Art Deco feel and has texture. I also like that in the renderings and mock-up photo posted online last week, the window trim is copper!

Let's see some pictures of 9 Walton's facade to compare.

Updates get posted in the Chicago boom rundown semi-regularly. The reaction to the facade there has been almost entirely positive.

There's no comparison. Walton looks authentic. OBP looks like a knockoff

Talk about arbitrary tastes. Pure homerism. Worse than Stacey King.

OK, Tom Servo. How do you really feel?
Your avatar looks to be Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Your not going NIMBY on us are you?

In all seriousness I think its time that folks made peace with this building. Its happening, theres no stopping it. It seems overhysterical to say that its going to "ruin" the skyline. Park Tower didn't ruin the skyline and neither did Elysian. Some people will like this building and some will hate it. But the vast majority of people will simply disregard it.
