I hope we start to see glass soon, I'm really curious how that aspect will turn out. Since the facade demo looks a bit darker in nature.

I'm guessing they were in your browser cache, so you (and everyone else who got in before the cap) would continue to see them, while the latecomers get the x's.

Yes, did you see the models at that architecture exhibition too? Very dark.

This is TallCoolOne's photo of the mock-up from about 50 pages back:

The space on the top is pretty incredible, I must admit.

It's not a bad design overall, the only real problem with this tower is the disproportionate spire. It ruins the form.

How is the spire disproportionate? It's shorter than most spires including Wilshire Grand, One World Trade, Bank of America Tower, etc.

That's just it, it's too thick and wide and stubby. It doesn't look like a proper spire, it looks like something I would put on a lego building.

It doesn't work well with the form at all, it would be a nice building without it entirely.

What are you considering the spire? The glass "shaft" or the wider "base of the spire" in the bottom portion? If it is the bottom portion, this is actually not a spire, but rather the cooling towers for the building.

I think it works very well with this form. I think a smaller spire would look ridiculous. The nice part is too that the spire will be glass and will light up different colors at night

I think I recall a rendering that had the light shaft continuing from the spire down the center of the west side (at least I hope the lower portion is lighted). That would look very impressive.

I hope they do actually change up the colors on a regular basis. I hate that Comcast 1 only has a tiny strip of light at the very top of the building able to change colors and they barely use it anymore.

Eh, to each his own, but I think we already have too many lights that change color. The original Cira Centre has some originality in the grid configuration, but besides that, having so many lights that change color looks really cheap and gimicky.

I want to try to explain the logic behind the spire.

425 Park Ave and the Comcast Innovation and Technology Center were both designed by Lord Foster of Foster & Partners.

The following two towers have similar design structures:
  • Off-Center Cores
  • Spires that are similar style
  • Spires that are on top of the cores

425 Park Ave: 3 spires

Comcast Innovation and Technology Center: 1 Spire

Both designs by Lord Foster are that of lofts that seamlessly float in the air.

Has anyone noticed that the webcam has gone out when the core crane was installed and at every subsequent jump of the crane? I have never seen them raise it. Guess what. The crane is ready to jump again and the webcam is out. Strange coincidence.

That building is fascinating. I really like Foster's designs. Thanks for that.

If I were to bet on it I'd say solid and constant white to mimic its (brother's?) (cousin's?) lines of light next door.

New luxury office tower on Park Avenue. A conversion of an existing building. They are demolishing the top and knocking our every other floor on the bottom and recladding. Will command the highest rents (from Citadel) of any building in the country (maybe the world) once completed. I'm a big fan of the design, especially the 3 fins, as well.
