The Great SSP Canada "Your Cover's Been Blown" Thread

So, since all of us on here are using avatars and assumed names, I was wondering how many people here are aware of other forumers' true identities?

Do you know people from SSP in real life (and therefore their real names)?

Do you know who some SSPers are, but they don't know you know their real names?

I know a few Sherbrooke SSPers.

I've met 'the rock the motard' in person a few times. Awesome guy, exactly the kind of guy Sherbrooke needs. I even tried to help him run for councillor in the municipal election through contacts of mine. I don't think he comes into the Canada section but he's a pillar of the SSP Sherbrooke section.

I've met 'le calmar' also. Through pure coincidence, my dad has known his dad since the 1980s. His dad did work a few times at our downtown Sherbrooke buildings... most recently in 2011, IIRC. He's extremely good in his field (excavation guy). Awesome guy based on what I know of him.

And I know the complete name of 'lake of the nations' as he made no effort to hide it, and I could find him if I wanted; he also knows enough about me that he could easily find me (I think he probably knows my full name as well by now). That guy is also not very active in the Canada section but he's the other pillar of the Sherbrooke section. Very high quality posts, too.

Even you (Acajack) could find me, guaranteed, if you absolutely had to (if your life depended on it for some reason), based on the info contained in the sum of my 10,000+ posts here.

SignalHillHiker knows exactly which building my Lévis duplex is, so that's another guy who could also find me if he wanted. Now that I think about it, I also know his name and I know his address (I gave real estate feedback when he was shopping for a property, and I know exactly which one he bought), so that's another guy who's not anonymous anymore to me.

Also jmt from Manitoba, he let all the info out one day, so I went just for fun to check his business' facebook page.

And I think that's it.

You, on the other hand... you didn't even wanted to share who you voted for in the federal election.

I've met Ayreonaut, Marty_McFly, Jeddy1989, Copes, Denscity, SurrealPlaces, Architype, and JHikka. One other guy from Nova Scotia, a few times, but I forget his username. He moved to Asia a while back. I think that's all.

I have giallo, vid, 1ajs, and KAO79 on Facebook. I think that's it there too. I've gotten a couple of unusual friend requests and suggested friends that I assume are SSP folks but, being unsure, never pursued.

I know who a few others are, especially among the NL forumers. And, of course, anyone whose username or photo credits are their real name.

I know who one of our local forumers is from some of his posts that appear in the local online newspaper comment section.

I think Lio you once posted an article on SSP (maybe in the Sherbrooke section?) where you and your dad were mentioned... I seem to vaguely recall that. Maybe I am just dreaming.

SHH you've identified yourself at least subtly so yeah, I know who you are.

There are a few others on here that I know who they are, but I am wondering if it would freak them out if I said so. (Not that I would ever name someone's real name on here.)

I wonder how I would react if, say, Xelebes or GlassCity or Marty said "hey Acajack, I know your real name!"

I know next to no one around here "IRL"... the last SSP meetup I attended was over a decade ago.

Some of the more old school Man-Sask SSPers, i.e. those who've been around at least 5 years know might who I am. I don't really zealously guard my identity but I kind of like having at least some cloak of anonymity, as flimsy as it may be.

I don't exactly make an effort to hide my real identity, it's pretty easy to find.

Met lots of Edmonton SSPers at events, civic meetings, over beers, etc. Sold a camera lens to one without knowing he was an SSPer until midway through the transaction.

I got the idea for this thread because not that long ago I crossed paths with a fellow SSPer in my real life. It took a bit of time to confirm my inkling and then it totally clicked that this person was SSPer X.

I thought about coming out and saying "hey X, it's me, Acajack!"

And then I chickened out.

I am almost positive that person has no idea that was me.

Based on a few hints you've left here and there, I think I figured out what your last name is, Acajack.

Mine is somewhat easy to figure out.

I don't know anyone from SSP in real life. But I wish I did, as I am quite sure that meeting in person would lead to many interesting discussions.

My handle dates back to pre-Nexopia days (1999, I estimate.) So people know me.

If I say 400, does it mean something to you?

.
Hmm... I want to play along but I can't think of the significance of the number 400 in my life...

Any further clues?

I think the idea that we're all not that anonymous in the end is something that helps keep the forum civil.

It's easier to be an inflammatory douchebag when you know you're absolutely impossible to track.

On the other hand, if your identity on a forum like SSP is nearly public, you are unlikely to say things that you wouldn't be comfortable saying in person.

I was just reflecting about that when Travis called me out yesterday for being unreasonable. The idea that I might easily be identified by anyone inclined to do just that makes me want to make sure that I always think twice before posting something. That's why I'm always so reasonable as a SSPer

Oops I edited my original post but you replied before I finished!

I wasn't sure about the 400, but I now think I am wrong about this one. But it is a significant number for someone who shares your last name, I believe. If you want to check, google your last name and 400 : 2nd and 4th result (from Google français) is who I originally thought you were

Nothing special comes up.

Maybe I am missing something?

Unless you think my last name is Truffaut?

I just know that Acajack knows who I am, though not vice-versa!
