The now $104 million dollar bulky tower is coming along. Demo is done; They are digging now and crane is coming next week. They are now saying that it will be finished around Late 2015.

Reminder of finished product:

So far just a start on a hole--but it is a start!

Also, bonus shots of PNC Tower on one side.

Someone should open a rooftop nightclub or parklet on top of Moe's SW restaurant.

Good progress at the site this week. They were driving piles today.

Seems like we can soon move this to the "Under Construction" forum?

Site preparation or merely just digging the foundation doesn't count as contruction starting, since digging a hole is just that, digging a hole. And plus any construction taking place within a foundation that pertains only to the excavation doesn't count either, since that's not construction for the actual building itself.

  • Foundation work includes the implementation of permanent foundation components such as the drilling of caissons, etc.
  • Top down construction involving piling doesn't require a foundation to have been dug for a building to be considered under construction.

A tall building is considered to be ‘under construction’ when site clearing has been completed and foundation / piling work has begun.

I think you have to make a written request in this thread, the Request For Move To Construction Thread thread:

Has work on the foundation commenced?

I think technically not. Lots of holes being dug and metal beams driven in what looks to be preparation for sheet piling but still don't think there has been actual foundation work yet.

I still don't think this is technically construction of the building, but regardless, things are well under way on the site.

Drilling is progressing and the logos on the guys clothing still say "Goettle" and not "Turner". It was a slower day today with the guys changing out the crane cable due to "bird caging". The hole in the ground in my last pic is now filled in with some giant concrete squares; possibly housing for electrical and/or water and sewage components. The hole is much bigger in the back corner. Also the workers have almost had to dig right up to Cherries Diner to work on some underground stuff and destroyed the sidewalk there that allowed the restaurant workers to empty trash and smoke. Interestingly, a wooden walkway has been built through the construction zone allowing them access to Forbes Ave. Seems like a fine place for a construction nerd to take a picture sometime though not today

Turner is the general contractor for The Gardens project. My understanding, Goettle is a sub-contractor responsible for shoring and excavation.

You are correct. Goettle is also doing the drilling.

I happened to catch a view of the crane used for drilling on the Gardens site being driven away on a massive truck turning on to Grant St. as I was walking to lunch this afternoon. So, after work, I confirmed the obvious and walked over to the site and sure enough, there was no trace of Goettle engineering equipment on the site and even the construction trailer was gone. Now Turner can move in and begin actual construction. It might not be Monday, but I'm guessing it will be rather soon.

Turner wasted no time. They were working on site today. With limited below grade construction, I expect to see this above ground rather quickly.

Based upon this pic, I have made the request for the mods to move this thread to the under-construction sub-forum. A lot less excavation then I had originally thought.
