The City of Orlando is located in the Central Florida region with a metro population of about 2.4 million people. The Orlando area draws about 70 million visitors annually and is considered the center of the theme park industry with Walt Disney World, Universal Orlando and Sea World. The area is also home to the second largest public university in the United States, the University of Central Florida with about 64,000 students. Downtown Orlando and its surrounding neighborhoods are rapidly changing as the area becomes much more urbanized.
Although I've flown in and out of Orlando many times, the only time I was downtown was in 1984. It's a totally different place now. Looks very good!
One thing very few people know is that there is significantly hilly terrain just outside of Orlando. The first time I drove from Orlando to Leesburg I was completely surprised at the terrain. The area the tourists see is pretty level, though.
Nice pictures! I remember driving around Downtown a few years ago before heading to the airport. There was actually a decent blend of old and new down there; there was plenty of new, which I would expect in the Sun Belt, but much more old than people (even on here) would imagine or admit. You captured the blend very well!

To me, Downtown Orlando has always seemed like a very urban business park if you will. Not that it's a bad thing, but also not typical of most downtowns of large metro areas.
The sprawl does seem to go on and on but at least it's not cookie-cutterlike and boring (like up here in the GTA).
It doesn't look like it'll stop growing anytime soon so it must be a good thing one way or another!

The Core of the City/Metro is urbanizing very nicely from SoDo up through Winter Park, Maitland and Altamonte Springs. I continue to be impressed with every visit 2 or 3 times a year.

Winter Park, in particular, is a fantastic small city with arguably the best small downtown in the entire state. Winter Park has had steady infill of quality townhouse-style developments for decades.
