Wild Wings will be built with patio space, next to the main entrance from Centennial.

Wild Wings is awful. I don't understand how they're in business.

They are building one in the Meadowlands too. It's popping up everywhere now.

The second phase of construction at the regional shopping centre on Centennial Parkway is soon to start. The next phase of development will include a new Toys R Us, Buffalo Wild Wings, Mucho Burrito, Five Guys Burgers & Fries, and Extreme Pita. Plans for the third phase of development will include a hotel facing the QEW.

New hotel coming to Centennial Parkway site

City staff received a site plan application for a six-storey hotel next to the Walmart plaza on Centennial Parkway, Chad Collins said.

The Ward 5 city councillor said Smart Centres has indicated Sandman Hotels will be the tenant in a six-storey, 206-room hotel with a Denny’SEND and http://www.moxies.ca/Moxie’s Bar and Grill restaurant in the hotel complex.

The development comes after bitter debate in 2009 that divided Winona about allowing for the employment lands on Centennial Parkway to be converted to commercial when Smart Centres indicated it wished to purchase the site at the corner of Centennial Parkway and South Service Road close to the QEW.

At the time, significant remediation work was required due to contamination on some of the property from the Waxman scrap yard.

Collins said the city tied the conversion of the lands to a requirement to build an office building or a hotel.

He said now the city is benefitting from that requirement.

“It took a lot of remediation work to get it to this point,” said Collins. “(Smart Centres) spent millions upon millions to clean it up. Now this will act as a kind of gateway to the city.

“With that comes new tax assessment and jobs.”

Last month, Smart Centres, a division of Walmart, had a building permit issued for a new Toys R Us and Subway, along with other stores and restaurants, including a U.S.-based chain, Buffalo Wild Wings, on Centennial Parkway North, with openings expected by summer.

Collins said Smart Centres expects to begin construction on the project this year, pending site plan approval.

A new massive Canada flag was put up in the middle of the shopping centre. It is so big that you can see it from the escarpment.

Here is a picture that I took today of the flag. It is bigger than the trucks at the bottom of the picture. When I get a chance I'll try to get a picture of it from the escarpment.

What the purpose of the flag anyway? Is it just to remind people where they live or is there something else going on?

I believe its to give people the illusion that Walmart actually gives a shit about Canada.

I must say....I don't care who is putting up the flags...but I'm happy to see an American company putting up Canadian flags for us....maybe if more Canadian companies did it first, the Americans wouldn't have to do it for us. One of the many things I do like about the U.S., and its citizens is that a lot of them display their flags year round, not just on Independence Day, or like most of us here on Canada day!

Interesting because to me that's the least redeeming feature of American culture.

I am assuming that the flag has been put up by Smart Centres (a Canadian company) rather than by Wal-Mart. Even if it has been put up by Wal-Mart, I do not mind. This flag is not hurting anyone or anything.

Can Hamilton support another one these? I suspect this will be patronized by Winona/Grimsby residents most.
