Thanks!
The "outside" vertical red surfaces look to be painted, rather than panelling, unless panelling is to be applied later.

If you look at the bottom cove it looks like they are putting panneling on top of the painted surface. It definitely looks a bit shinier to me.

Maybe it has just had an additional coat of something to make it shinier.

Quite a shame if they go for paint over alucabond.

Yeah, I was wondering whether the outside and inside would be treated differently.

Maybe it's not an architectural masterpiece but I think it has way more character than the boring box buildings that dot the blocks around this one.

Pics by Yellow Fever at SSC - dated May 29, 2013.

Some of the balconies are being painted black.
The red/orange looks great. Still wondering about the last of the bare concrete edges though (east and west facades)...

those flourishes and unconventional massing (along with the yale) really make this otherwise typical tower somewhat impressive. the marketing is almost insultingly idiotic but the design team really seems to have done their homework: take a look at the two bedroom floorplans. basically, we have de-emphasized/discarded master bedrooms in favor of large (and multiple) shared spaces, tailor-made for roommated professionals.

I assume this is the Rolston:

Two-alarm fire at Granville high-rise under construction

Vancouver Sun August 20, 2013 8:02 AM

VANCOUVER - Vancouver fire officials are investigating a two-alarm fire that broke out this morning at a high-rise under construction at Granville Street and Drake Street in Vancouver.

Vancouver Fire and Rescue says the building is vacant. The incident is causing some delays for TransLink buses in the area. There are short detours on the northbound service via Seymour, Davie and Granville streets.

VPD spokesman Sgt. Randy Fincham said the 911 call about the fire came in at around 6 a.m. and police were dispatched to help control traffic in the area.

Fincham said the fire is out but crews are still cleaning up the area. So far, there are no reports of injuries.

Great photo. Thanks for posting.

The heritage restoration of the Yale Hotel looks first rate. When you consider that this was built in 1888 for the CPR, this is about as old as buildings come in Vancouver.

I like how they handled the transition to the Rolston; that could have turned out awkward. I wonder what the roof looks like? There is a lot of overlook from the tower, so I am sure consideration was given to giving it a palatable appearance.

Looking forward to seeing this in person next time I'm in the area.
