A little construction update for you guys.

I'm next door to OMP and every morning for the past week i've noticed them bringing more metal-clad panels to the site. Today they had 3 trucks lined up with panels. I think we can see this really start to fly now.

Now with OMPW i noticed they had a flatbed truck with a crane assembly (the cab portion, i think) waiting off site. I always thought they would wait until OMP's crane came down, but i guess not. So, expect another crane to be heading up on the south side

Good news. Are the metal panels going to be for the crown or the concrete surface of the building? From the renderings I'm guessing they will be for the crown.

The thing I like about 2020's last shot is how it feels like geology in action.
There's the old moutain ridge in the background, and then there's this new peak risen up, thrusting another ridge out into the plain.

The shape of the crown looks good so far as well.

While I'm not totally enamored of this building--by no means do I think it's a dud, either--I have to admit it makes a really powerful statement when approaching downtown northbound on Lake Shore Drive. Its sheer bulk grabs my eye and pulls it toward the burgeoning skyline of Central Station. If only we could get a little more architectural diversity in that area then we could have something truly special.

This whole discussion of how bland the Grant Park South Wall is starting to frost me. There is one building out of the ground and some want to crucify it. Most American cities would give their eye teeth for whats happening in the South Loop and Central Station in particular. Please someone point to another neighborhood in the country let alone Chicago that can match these four buildings.

* MANY POSTS DELETED FOR BEING OFF-TOPIC *

this thread is about OMP & OMPW. if you want to talk about GP3 & GP 4, go discuss them in their thread.

if you want talk about the architecture of grant park's southwall overall and how it may relate to the rest of the city, go use the state of chicago architecture thread.

What are they going to be doing with the bare cement wall that goes all the way up the building? Are they going to paint it?

They can't remove the crane until the crown is complete. Whyen the crane is removed, that's when they will begin to clad the core.

Some pictures on my trip to Chicago...sorry for the quality, they were taken behind some dirty windows and a somewhat unstellar camera. 2/16/08

This one is going to have some nice views.

I know that was the plan, at least according to the models, but now I'm not so sure they are actually going to do it anymore. You would think they would have done it by now. Also, it looks like the adjacent curtainwall is butting directly to the concrete. If they were going to clad it with more curtainwall there would be a gap where the adjacent curtainwall is hitting the concrete so that the cladding could form a clean inside corner with the adjacent curtainwall. Can someone get a close up?
