Fortunately it'll get washed out amidst the coming towers and its surroundings. Its akin to 5 Beekman (worst tower built in the last 5 years).

On a side note, can't wait for the 2nd component to rise. 1 MW needs its slightly shorter twin to rise. To fill that void in the skyline mass. Will help further connect MW district to HY. When Penn Station district kicks off, there will be some solid "massing" bulk/density for the area.

Walking along 33rd Street today, it struck me how tall this thing looks as it looms. Then I remembered it's basically going to be a 1,000 ft building, so of course it does.

Big cities use way less power per person. You don't see the power lines in NYC but they're tons of them including 345kV lines, they're just all underground and the substations are mostly disguised as commercial buildings or in the basements of buildings.

I've always been in awe about how the sewer and water supply infrastructure can keep up with so many skyscrapers.

this one is shaping up to have a really sexy glass skin and a lovely shape--better than the tortured attempts at design coming out of Hudson Yards

Although it's not going to be top 10 tallest in NY, it must be top 5 most volume, right? It's very massive.

I'd say it looks like the order for volume is something like:
1- 1WTC
2- 30 Hudson Yards
3- 3WTC/ESB tie
4- 1 Manhattan West/4WTC tie

you often notice a lot of digging up the pipes and power lines in the street around the sites prior to building these big projects (or suffer it if you live nearby).

Nope. And this one, at 2 msf, is merely a large tower for New York, but not in the largest group. Buildings like MetLife (3.2 msf), BofA (2.2 msf), not to mention the largest, 55 Water St (3.5 msf), NY Plaza (2.5 msf), Chase Manhattan (2.2 msf), One Penn Plaza (2.3 msf), Goldman Sachs (2.1 msf), etc.
