I wasn't originally a fan of this building, but it looks like it's turning out well. Hopefully the crown is done right..

I think it’s just bronze-colored paint. It makes sense that these just appeared now, you can’t really paint outdoors below 40 degrees, but we just had a warm spell that reached 60. Nice little window to get some painting done.

I think also the concrete where the metal panels would go is unpainted, so when it was raining earlier this week they appeared dark as they absorbed more water. That the precast seems to have no finish at all continues for me to be the indicator that these areas are not done.

I think it's going to look fantastic in Streeterville. I always felt some people were a bit too critical because it's a Stern from NY. Nice addition to all the glass IMO.

It's just the deco-detailed concrete. And I doubt any of it will be painted. It's all pigmented concrete from the looks of it. If you look at updated renderings there are no bronze details. There may still be on the crown portion though.

I wouldn't be too concerned with how this turns out, Related usually does a good job.

False, Related usually does a shit job. Zero detailing and lowest grade possible materials. Both 500 LSD and the Waterview stump were total disappointments. I will say that this building is turning out somewhat better than expected, but when your expectations are for them to literally build a 70 floor shitcastle, that's not hard to do.

I remember there being a lot of hate (and currently still is, but its lessened a bit as of late) when this tower's design was initially revealed. I always thought it looked pretty cool. But I'm somewhat of a pomo fan. There good pomo, and then theres god awful pomo. I think OBP falls in the former category.

Streeterville is all glass and steel towers anyway. A bit of variety in surface material adds to the neighborhood.

I've always liked the massing on this one. Pomo can be nice if done right. I dont necessarily love pomo but I do love variety and this area could benefit from it

Cliff notes: Modern buildings utilizing modern (steel, glass) or classical (brick, stone) building materials and mimicking historic architectural styles (art deco, neo classical, etc).

Chicago examples would be the Harold Washington Library, 311 S Wacker, 900 N Michigan, Franklin Center, etc...

OBP would be considered pomo because it has art deco elements in its design; stone/materials made to look like stone, wedding cake setbacks, and a defined vertical expression that are all hallmarks of the style.

As you can see by that wikipedia entry, it's also something of an outdated and inaccurate term for a building like this, which lacks the exaggeration, irony, and informality that's central to post-modernism.

Hah! Yeah, Thompson Center is definitely still around, in all its pomo glory. Let's see for how long, though. I think I'd be okay with its demolition if it meant that Amazon was moving in and building a super tall in its place...

It's definitely awesome at times. I wish I could spend a lot more time shooting, though. The funny thing about owning a photography business though is that you seem to spend less time shooting and more time doing the same mundane work many business owners do; accounting, writing proposals, emails, haggling with clients, chasing down payments, crushing moments of failure and defeat...all that fun stuff, ha. Despite all that though, I wouldn't change it for the world.

Which is really it's saving grace IMO. In the renders, it looked much bulkier and awkward than when built out. Even with its faults it leanness gives it a soaring quality that makes it look more attractive. Plus there seems as much window as concrete which helps, whereas in some other concrete buildings it looks as if the ratio is almost 3/1 concrete/window.
