This is the first real skyscraper to be built in Montreal since the Hilton a couple years ago.

Looks like the pace is picking up, and we're getting scared here.

Don't worry caltrane !! However, Montréal is facing a small (not so small !!) construction boom with :

CHUM (Université de Montréal Health Care Center)
MUHCR (McGill University Health Care Center)
The Altitude condos (u/c)
The Marriott (u/c)
The Altoria condos (old building on its site being demolished)
The Cadillac-Fairview tower next to Bell Center (very likely to be realised)
The Métropol condos (terrain being prepared)

and so forth...great times for a city that went through stagnation for a long while.

Reached ground level! Good stuff! With all the excitment over new tower proposals recently, I practically forgot about this one, and yet its the tallest construction in this city in almost 20 years!!

Now, the tower component will be rental apartments right?

Here is the info you need. The hotel portions in on floors 1-12 and the apartments are from 14-40.

Question:
Why doesn't the Bank of Montreal have a tall tower in Montreal ?

Good question. Been asking that myself many times.

fact is, BMO isn't big time in Quebec. Its more present in the rest of Canada. In Quebec the National Bank, Banque laurentienne and of course Desjardins dominate the markey. BMO retail branches are few and far between.

Vaillant is partially right, the HQ is in Toronto since the PQ took over. BUT even before BMO left town it didn't have a tall office tower. Their tower in old Montreal was only about 14 floors high, even back when it was the HQ of the nation's first and largest bank.

Also Vaillant, BMO isn't HQ'ed in vancouver but look at this:

ironically, Montreal si about the only city in canada NOT to have a BMO highrise.

^Yes I know - that is what lead to my question - I've always wondered why.
Thanks for the responses guys - didn't mean to derail the thread - now back to:

Not really shared. BMO keeps its "legal" HQ in Montreal. Which means nothing. For all intents and pruposes, BMO is a Toronto based company with minor operations in Quebec and a paper-thin sham of an HQ in the city in which it was born.

Same could almost be said for the Scotiabank. Halifax has one of the coolest branches in Canada with all the brass and gold but no highrise office building for it. Halifax's BMO tower is old but somehow taller than Montreal's too.

Anyway I saw in an earlier that this will be Montreal's tallest in 20 years? Given the economy it's good to see. In fact a few other cities are building there new tallest.

Not much above ground progress since the 27th. Maybe most of the work is still going on underground?

From experience, it takes time for a highrise to get to ground level. Hotels also have higher floor /ceiling height on the bottom floors due to meeting rooms and hotel amenities. Once the floors for the rooms start, this tower should rise quickly. ...just my experience.

This project should really be moved to "Under construction". It's been U/C for 6 months now.
