Codes and Regulations

In addition, the buildings from the Era in which Woolworth was built were much less complex in terms of Code requirements and regulations. Compared with buildings from the past, there is an exorbitant amount of money spent for compliance with these requirements which cuts into the budget for furnishings, etc. A building in today's era also requires a plethora of additional MEP and telecommunications features that a building like Woolworth didn't. All things considered (with exception to perhaps ornamentation), buildings of today are much more complex.

You are implying the highest level of ballistics rated glass here. I've specified lesser ratings, but I should warn it's extremely expensive glass. Definitely possible to do a whole lobby, but the costs would be incredible. And it's not just the glass. I have a couple 1 square foot samples and they are waaay heavier than standard glazing. So the framing for this glass would have to be substantial adding more cost. Also, the framing tends to be the weakest point....so beef that up...plus the thick glass panels and you'd still have alot of obstruction when all is said and done.

I had the pleasure of seeing this building several times within the past week, and it is a real monster. You can see it from pretty much everywhere in NYC and nearby NJ.

Yo guys, I have a question about the spire, please!

Is the spire/mast/antenna already made up now and is waiting on the building to top out? Or is it like still not manufactured yet?

The antenna steel sections are already fabricated since a year ago or so, these are being stored at the ADF Group shop in Quebec. Don't have any information about the radome enclosure.

^ Those are great. First one seems a little bit tilted but the composition with the freighter is nice.

To Hunser, GREAT pictures! You can really see this as the monster it is!

Does anyone know how tall this is so far, and just how much more it has to go? Anyone believe it is going to finish sooner than said?

1,223' 6'' right now. Parapet height is 1373'. Topping out roof should be around late May / early June.

Here's an interesting map for Circle-Line Cruises that shows a completed 1WTC.

If you have not taken the Staten Island ferry to Manhattan, put it on your must do list.............plus it's free and parking is $5 i believe but on saturday it is easy to find a space right on the street a little further up from the ballpark and pay nothing

I thought the Radome enclosure had been scratched? We had pages and pages about it not working out, did the petition work?
