Residential hospice one step closer for Greater Moncton
Kate Letterick · CBC News · Posted: Aug 14, 2018 8:13 PM AT | Last Updated: 27 minutes ago

A 10-bed residential hospice facility is one step closer to reality for the Greater Moncton area says Tradina Meadowns-Forgeron.

The executive director of Hospice Greater Moncto said it's a dream that's been 14 years in the making.

"This is an opportunity for people to have a better quality of life towards their end of life journey," Meadows-Forgeron said.

The Humphrey Lewisville Sunny Brae Lions Club has donated 2.2 hectares of land in the Lewisville area.

The province has committed funding for a clinical care team.

Finance Minister Cathy Rogers said an investment of $1,082,264 over two years will go toward the hiring of an on-site licensed practical nurse and personal support workers who will be supported by the Extra-Mural Program interdisciplinary team.

Rogers said the funding is included in the current budget.

The plan is to build a 10-bed facility, which is expected to cost $4.5 million.

Meadows-Forgeron said the facility will provide a more home-like atmosphere for people at the end of their lives.

This is so badly needed in Moncton.
These people do stunningly amazing work that no one else wants to do (with a few exceptions.)
I hope people will seriously consider donating to this when they consider which organizations they might wish to give to.

Indeed.

I have a lot of respect for palliative care.

You fight the good fight for as long as it is reasonable, but when it becomes obvious that the end is in sight and nothing can be done about it, then the focus should switch to making the patient as happy and comfortable as possible for whatever time he/she has left.

As someone who has watched a large percentage of his older relatives, and a small amount of Younger ones as well Die in Hospital. I'm not bashing the system but this would make it better. The staff at the hospital where so nice, and accommodating about palliative care but also had a short time to spend per patient because it's a hospital, and you get called here, there, and everywhere.

I think this will be a great project, and will be better for those who are in some ways hanging on to life by a thread as my grandfather put it while ion his death bed.

91.9 The Bend mentioned Pleasant Street. That doesn't narrow it down much.

The story says the Lions Club donated the land, and there is an empty field next to their building off Pleasant St.

That's a way to see the land used, it's been sitting empty since they remove the baseball diamond years ago.

Costco

Drove by the new Costco site this morning. It's coming along quickly.

The steel is up and it looks like the roof has been installed. Some wall panels have also been installed.

Any whispers on what will be occupying the land across from DQ? They are there working it today.

Noticed this weekend that the land between Ed's Travel Trailer and the trans-can on-ramp was sold on Shediac road.

Here's the lots from SNB showing a sale date of aug 20th
1510 SHEDIAC RD
https://paol.snb.ca/paol.html?lang=en&pan=02247072

Has anyone heard who might of bought this land?

I am not sure if this is the norm these days, but with all the construction on 15, my brother left his place at 6:00 pm and it took an hour to get to Parlee beach last night from the OLD west end of Moncton.

The more people that commute to and from Kent County/Shediac to Moncton the busier it will get, construction or not. This is what happens when your city grows and sprawls.

Yes it is the norm during evenings, and weekends especially + the construction does not help with Traffic.

There is still the fight over several new campgrounds in, and around Shediac as well if these do get built (Anywhere from 200-1500 sites) it will be even worst.
