I also noticed this afternoon that they are cutting in windows to the SkyCity Centre sales center as we speak.

It'll be interesting to see the re-design and the model of the proposal when it opens.

There is no way that it doesn't have the pointy top. I believe the model just wasn't finished yet.

It looks that way from the image they released below (added in OP)

The top 3 floors in the model are slanted similar to the original conceptual renders released before the re-design?

The crown could still be on the table?

Maybe MPI and MLLC will purchase 30 units for visiting executives and consultants? Haha, God forbid.

Nice disclaimer, BTW

I am going to buy five condos in this tower the day it gets built! Then I will give them away to homeless people.

There are 388 units in this building. With Riverman buying 5 and pkirvan buying 6, that means only 377 units left. Its a really good start and the sales centre hasn't even opened.

Leaving aside the feasibility of this project for a moment, I thought I'd comment on the updated rendering.

The new version seems much more realistic than the old one. As dramatic as that big blank wall was on what I presume was the east elevation, I can't imagine that would have been very practical in terms of handling suite layouts and ensuring a decent amount of light in each one. At least the peak is still there to make the tower stand out. The podium looks more interesting too, even though it has lost a couple storeys.

As designed, this would be a really cool looking building to have in our ocean of bland downtown 70s towers.

Podium looks shorter (less office and grocery?), but otherwise looks very similar. Obviously would be a great addition to downtown!

Again, suspending discussion of feasibility for a moment, it really would have a big impact on downtown. Probably more so than most developments in recent years, because the other big projects (Hydro, MTS, Centrepoint) have for the most part gone up on sites that were previously occupied by other buildings. Skycity would go up on a site that has been a part of a large swath of surface parking for decades... it would really do a lot to revitalize Graham Avenue by making that stretch less empty and forlorn, and it would help make Garry (which is already on the rebound) a more pleasant pedestrian environment. So there's that.

And then from a skyline perspective, it would finally give Winnipeg a new tower that really stands out. As great as Hydro and the CMHR are, they are more side dishes in terms of their impact on the skyline... Skycity would be a main attraction that would stand out prominently.

From the rendering is looked like the podium is now two stories of commercial space with three levels of parking on top. I am not an expert on calculating parking spots but based on typical surface lot sizes that would seem to be right around one parking spot per residential unit with no excess supply to offset the surface lot loss, the increases demand for the police HQ or to try and catch some of the money from MTS Centre event parking.

In terms of asking governments for funding for residential development, don't those type of funding agreements usually lead to substantial subsidized rental units? That could make for a very interesting mix in the building -- ie floors 5-15 are subsidized housing and 16-30 are luxury condos.
