Thiruvananthapuram, Feb 22 Kerala Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan Thursday inaugurated a 850,000 sq ft building at Kerala's Technopark, taking its total built-up area to 2.2 million sq ft and making it India's largest IT park.

The new building - Tejaswini - has 12 floors and is believed to be the single largest building in the country's IT industry. With this new addition, ITPL in Bangalore is pushed to second place and Tidal Park in Chennai to third.

After inaugurating Tejaswini, Achuthanandan said: 'Kerala is blessed with fine human resources, a good quality of life and world-class infrastructure facilities at reasonable cost.

'I assure you that my government will make every effort to improve infrastructure facilities and provide maximum support for the growth of the IT industry. Many companies have approached me for setting up their operations in Kerala and I am happy to welcome all of them to the state.'

The Technopark is poised for even more growth as three companies are building their own campuses here and would have a total of 800,000 sq ft. The Mumbai-based Leela Group is also building a campus and would take up 500,000 sq ft here.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, FEB 22 : Kerala Chief Minister VS Achuthananthan on Thursday dedicated the 8,50,000 sq ft Tejaswini facility at Technopark to the nation.
After its phase-I expansion, the 3.2 million sq ft Technopark here leads Indian IT parks in built-up area. Earlier, it was smaller than ITPL (International Technology Park), Bangalore and Tidal park, Chennai.

"The expansion ensures the best infrastructural support to the entire host of IT firms, who recently approached me for investing in Technopark," the Chief Minister said.

Besides the 15,000 IT professionals employed in Technopark, as many as 6000 additional jobs are created by the extra space. Technopark houses 120 IT firms. Further expansion spreading to another 600 acres is underway.

The new Tejaswini facility, advance-leased by firms like Infosys, Ernst & Young, SunTec, US Technology, Alliance Cornhill, Stock Holding Corporation of India and Office Tiger, also claims to be India's biggest single building devoted to IT industry. Nasscom President Kiran Karnik, who was guest of honour at the function, commented that the high-speed connectivity between Thiruvananthapruam and Kochi should be built up to optimise the skilled manpower in these cities.

"High quality of life indices and availability of skills are expected to favour Thiruvananthapuram, as the focus shifts to Tier 2 cities. After all, the second wave of outsourcing is on," Radhakrishnan Nair, CEO, Technopark, said.

The Kerala government, as part of its IT policy, is also planning to set up finishing schools to groom raw graduates for IT jobs.
