on the topic of dreams from earlier:

i had a terrifying dream earlier in the summer. i don't remember all the details, but essentially i was in this small town, like 50's-back-to-the-future-main-street-town-square kind of town. everyone was super nice but in a creepy/1950s/truman show/stepford wives kind of way. the streets were mostly empty but everyone that i did see had blank stares.

the place seemed real/normal enough but i felt like i was trapped there, i knew i shouldn't be there and i needed to find a way out. i went hiking out of town, in the surrounding hills. the hills were kind of like the dry mountains that surround LA and other southern california towns. i got picked up by an army-looking no doors, no roof green jeep. as i got a ride further into the mountain dirt/dust roads i saw lots of other jeeps with two soldiers in each, looking blankly ahead as they drove around. many of them were driving right off the cliffs to their unseen deaths below. although i didn't see it, i got the impression they were working on some hidden military experimental project. like the dimension thing from "the mist" (good movie).

despite this 50s feel to it all, the year seemed to keep changing. sometimes it was the 1960s, sometimes it was the 1970s, but probably no later than that.

i was understandably freaked out and wanted to escape this town but there was there was clearly a lot of security with all of these army jeeps driving around. there were also fences at the edge of town. i eventually wandered through some streets and through a building (up stairs through doors etc) and found a hole in which i could get out of the town. but as i was about to step through, a bunch of people came rushing through the hole from the other side into my side/town. they were trying to escape the side i was trying to escape to. so i took a look through and saw some creepy camp in the woods, looked like something out of a horror movie, and a bunch of native looking people with spears and freaky masks.

anywho, i finally got fed up with this creepy place and forced myself awake because i was so unsettled that i knew it couldn't be real. the only problem was that i woke up inside another dream, so i forced myself awake again and awoke inside yet another dream. it was like inception and i just couldn't get out. i was more freaked out by this and thought i would be stuck in my dreams for years.

At the risk of sounding like a penis....

I was asked by this site's webmaster to kindly change my offensive avatar yesterday. It contained a certain 4-letter profanity.

The people in here cuss like sailors. MIAIRIK is constantly posting lurid images in the Skybar. I'm like, "What the fornication"? As you can see I complied. I have a few years invested in this place to risk losing membership. I apologize if I offended anyone.

I must not have been very offended because I don't even remember your "offensive" avatar.

I find the new one more offensive.

Meh, I'm sure there was a reason. I remember a while back someone caught shit for swearing in a thread title, but the posts themselves have always been less scrutinized. I think in that situation it had something to do with different things that can have access to the site blocked by company IT departments. I don't really remember, but maybe it's the same thing with avatars.

I get it. Thanks for your insight. I am 44 years old and really don't take too kindly to being scolded. Those days are far behind me.

Dylan has urged forumers who swear a lot to cut back on it in their posting, usually with little success. Obviously, he's not too fond of it.

that reminds me of this urban blog called Philaphilia which is pure hilarity. A sample of the greatness of this bloggers prose.

Never been to Philly and don't know if I ever will, but I have that site bookmarked.

Check out this horrible, local commercial for a strip club:

Video Link

I know the charm of local commercials is that they are horribly produced, but this sh%t is just special.

I clicked on a few more of those Deja-Vu ads....... Damn!

Looks like they filmed them all in the same mobile home.

While getting ready for work (usually I get up at 6:00AM sometimes an hour earlier) I will turn on the local TV news and for the longest time this awful commercial was playing in VERY heavy morning rotation......as in EVERY commercial break, sometimes playing TWICE in one break. It never played at any other time of day.
I didn't even need the sound turned up very loud but that Goddamn electronic "genie" sound would still echo throughout the house.

Another grating Quad City area commercial. It goes on waaaay too long and the name of the establishment is questionable...

But it does show the east and west coasters here that, yes, Iowa does indeed have black people.

This is the best aerial of DT Calgary that I've seen in quite some time.
