Is the loft des arts really going to be 25 floors? I haven't heard any news about this in years! Wasn't the mafia involved as I recall?

I hope they at least fill the hole. I wouldn't buy a unit there knowing that there is going to be a huge hole forever next door. I guess they would have turned it into a green space if there was no project at all.

I'm not sure about mafia involvement, but here is the old version (the SLEB). I haven't seen any renders of a newer version (Lofts des Arts Phase 2) yet! I doubt there is much of a chance of phase 2 ever getting built.

One of the all-time best side-street vistas in Montreal. A rare example of successfully marrying the old neighborhood with the new building.

For a failed marriage, see Palais de Justice in Vieux Montreal. Quebec City forumers might consider the "Bunker".

Aurea - 7 floors

New project. It is quite ugly and bland in my opinion. The materials look cheap and don't justify the high prices they are asking. The empty "lot" its on bothers me less than this fugly building. It is also stupid architecture. Look at the blank wall. What are the chances that something ever gets built right up against it with an old bank building on the corner? It will also give an opportunity to vandals to climb atop the bank and spray paint the blank wall (which is not possible with the blank wall of the YMCA because its not directly next to a shorter building).

Of course, this is Montreal, where only height not architectural quality matters. It is automatically approved because it abides by height regulations.

Aurea - 7 floors (12 units starting at $329,000)
On Drummond Street just above St. Catherine.
There will be a coffee shop on the ground floor apparently.

It bugs me a little bit that more wasn't done to nullify the affect of the fugly blank wall.

Thanks for all these scoops MTL, sadly none of them are particularly inspiring.

And I agree about the first one, it is awful. Essentially, its a quick-cash scheme.

Any project with the word 'jardins' as part of the name is usually anything but jardin-like.

As to the blank walls, why cant they use some creative brick work in cases where it is unlikely that anything will be built next door? Make a groovy pattern or mural. The extra cost would be negligible if anything at all.
