I'm not sure how to answer. If I didn't take that picture I'd probably be able to accurately guess it's from the Burin Peninsula and very close to the coast. Coastal headlands tend to have that barren look. And the Burin Peninsula has a different sort of hills than elsewhere on the island. They're tighter, steeper, more convoluted.

But all of the island looks somewhat like that, unless completely covered in trees. The interior tends to be much flatter and also had a lot of moorland with peat bogs and grassy meadows. Lots of red and brown plants, lichens, etc. I think it interior would be called muskeg out west. Not sure if they're really the same.

There was a guy from Ottawa on VOCM today - young guy, judging by the voice, talking about how to get millennials to come to Newfoundland. He came for Mallard Cottage and Quidi Vidi and was talking about how we're in a bit of a unique situation because the advertising is great and the experiences are authentic, and we're not really doing anything wrong - everyone knows if you come here, you'll be getting something you can't get anywhere else, BUT it's so expensive that we're competing with Europe. But he said Canada is having another bit of a nationalist streak in response to Trump and we can expect a lot more mainlanders choosing here over the U.S. or Europe. Fingers crossed.

The Scots.

When I went to Newfoundland, I was literally whacked upside my head by the crazy, rugged beauty and the feeling as if I was literally at the very End of The World (and you sort of are, at least as we know it).

That, and the complete, utter unpretentious nature of everyone I met ( At first I always thought that there was something up: this dude can't be THAT nice!) But no, they actually are that nice.

If you've not been, get going! You totally won't regret it.

Put your guard down though, they're not 'normal'!

Aww, thanks OutofTowner. I love when people not front here notice some of the same things I don't dare fantasize are true. lol

A few from my walk this morning... the first fine day in a long while. Went downtown, then back up into the ghetto lol.

As in a lot of other places, Google Maps has more and more streetview data for Halifax. The paths available there now include a bunch of areas accessible only to pedestrians. Here are a couple of screen captures from those, plus a few other views I thought were nice.

Some areas like King's College and the Public Gardens aren't working yet for me, but presumably they'll be available soon.

A couple recent ones via FB.

Opera on the Avalon's latest marketing.

And this one... lol "Inside the overpass" is a euphemism for St. John's, with Townies on our side, and Baymen on the other.

This actually isn't the right overpass, but it cracks me up that the baymen did this.

This guy (Coveney) knows how to capture his city ! Great pictures, thanks for sharing, Martin!

------

This morning, walking through my neighbourhood's ruelles, in Montréal.
The clotheslines were full... I loved the light, the wind, the trees and their leaves seemingly rustling in the breeze. It's always a treat to take the ruelles instead of the streets when going to work.
