Come on, what do you guys want, a miracle or something?

I keep on stressing that Pataki is to blame for all the extreme slowness and delays. We're all just gonna have to live with it and deal with it.

In about five years or so, we'll all once again be looking down at New York City from the obs deck about 1,368 ft. high.

Yeah, it's quite possible that all or most of the Tishman workers who helped build 7 WTC were transfered to other construction projects.

Yeah, but it won't be from atop the roof, in the open air.

The thrill of the view from atop the original WTC is something I'll always miss.

Yeah, but in this case, it's better to have one than none at all.

Talking

it seems 2/3 of the site would be lost in use with nothing in this memorial square where the twins were, just metro tunnels in lower level. The plan pushed the new bldgs too close to the others lefting a very big empty space in middle, but that is New York scheme. I would prefer more spread the bldgs in the site and bullshit with such memorial square with twins marks.
Yeah, when i got retired in years i can see the FT done in a trip and it would be brand new.

^Dude, the twin towers were one of the best things ever happened to NYC. The memorial must be built to remember them and those innocent and unfortunate souls.

Quite a blunt way of putting it, but yeah, you're right!! Haha!!

He's no longer in office anyway, so we no longer have to put up with any of his bullcrap!:

That's one of the most meaningful posts I've ever read coming from you. And its all 100% correct. They NEED to be remembered.

Don't be so gloom! This observatory may have something that even the previous one did not! You never know! Plus, it will be just as great! It was 8 years since I was last up in the WTC observatory and I will try to say one of the first to get up top the replacement when it's finished...

I might wait until some of the heat blows over first, and THEN go. But I WILL go.

I'm not missing out on this golden opportunity like I missed visiting the one at the Twins!

The new view will be just as exciting. Behold:

Besides, while the outdoor deck view was great, you couldn't get close to the
edge of the tower. As a result, you couldn't see the streets directly below the
WTC. At the indoor observatory however, you could lean on the glass itself,
looking to the streets below.

You're so right, NYguy!!

While some are complaining about the Freedom Tower not having an outdoor obs desk, they seem to take great pleasure in overlooking those limitations.

The INDOOR desk gets you right up close and personal with the closer streets.
We get that same advange here in Boston with the Pru Tower's obs deck.

One of the disadvantages or advantages of the outdoor deck on the South Tower was that it was surrounded by a barbwired fence to discourage suicide attempts, or tightroping from one tower to the other, as was done by the French guy Philippe Petit in '74.

The other was that there were tracks that ran just near the edge of both towers so that the window cleaning machinery could be used.

And for those wishing and hoping that the tower would get an outdoor deck, there are already TWO in NYC, the ESB and the GE Builing at the RC.

So, once again, the Freedom Tower will NOT get an outdoor obs deck, so DON'T ASK.

1,500 ft wind? 2,000 ft? I never really found it windy up there though.

Another thing about the outdoor deck at the WTC, it wasn't always open (for obvious reasons).

Even so, getting over that fence wouldn't put you directly over the edge. The outdoor observation deck was more of a platform on top of the building. You get an idea from this clip again...

At least Maculay Culkin was lucky enough to have visited the Twins and the outdoor obs deck and take some pics up there with his camera when he was a little boy.

Even though it was a movie he was doing!

I never did!! However, I'm NOT missining out on visiting the Freedom Tower though!!!!
