Speaking of the "Roof"... Since when is a parapet considered a roof? Why is the height as measured to the top of a glass parapet, counted as the roof.

All four of the new WTC towers 1 through 4 have ri-donk-ulous glass parapets that are several floors higher than the actual "You can walk around and look at the sky above" roof. Yet they call the higher height the "roof height" in official talk.

CTBUH has 3 categories for height and "Roof" is not one of them.

1) Height to Architectural Top - Includes Spires and parapets
2) Highest Occupied Floor - Public access space
3) Height to Tip - Includes antenna, flag poles and stuff

So...

Anyone think that railing on the rooftop should count as structural height?

Never.

You and others' schoolyard-style bullying tactics on this thread, will not dissuade me from posing honest, thought-provoking questions, worthy of posting.

The inconsistencies of New York's buildings and their official "Roof Heights" begs the question. Please note how the New York Times building's glass parapets are NOT counted as its roof height.

To outside observers this is inconsistent and needs explaining.

(Oh, and thanks for re-posting my words verbatim and in their entirety.)

The problem with speaking in absolutes is that you easily get proven wrong. It's not true that no one cares. I agree with Traynor.
I also agree that I've been guilty of having this discussion on this thread and that there is another thread for it.

p.s. - The correct spelling of "your" in this case is the contraction "you're." (And "It's.")

p.p.s. -

This isn't about my grammar but about a stupid redundant discussion that hides any update when I check this thread. And why do you keep bringing it up? Why? It's never ending! The inclusion for the parapet as part of the roof is incredibly insignificant! Why does it matter? Traynor literally used the word 'roof' to give life to the discussion again! If you guys are so obsessed with the height of the roof, why don't you make a new thread?

I can see that you suffered by being harassed by a low class of bully.

Nothing about the official roof or spire heights has anything to do with New York officials.

If you took a minute to research anything, rather than shoot off your holyer than thou mouth you might learn something.

(Waits for the return rant.)

This question also probably doesn't belong in this thread, but here goes: I was walking though my small town the other day and noticed some large ice chunks that had fallen from one of our modest 2 or 3 story buildings. I thought that it could have done a lot of damage had someone been under it when it fell.

Then I wondered: Does a skyscraper like this one have any sort of ice mitigation system? I can imagine ice falling from a building of this height into a populated plaza would spell disaster! A problem you would think happens all over NYC, but yet I've never heard of a single account of it.

It does happen, and occasionally they have to close some streets (and even bridges) because of it.

Here's a recent example http://www.dnainfo.com/20110202/manh...harous-commute.
