NYC has more Jews than Jerusalem.

The Jewish and Italian influences on the city are some of my favorites.

Surprisingly, the atheist rate in New York City is on the rise! I personally don't care what religion, race, sexual orientation, gender, or disability you have. As long as you are nice to me, we're good and I am glad most New Yorkers have that attitude.

So basically the top of One57 will be as high as the Empire State Building observatory deck? I like!

But that does bring a question to mind (that's actually on topic), what is the orientation of this building? i.e. does it face Central Park from the N,E,W, or S side?
Um, just a random Phoenix dig? And, no, that's not something people in Phoenix would complain about? Shadows killing trees? Let's see, no trees to kill. And perhaps you haven't checked in in a while? Phoenix has been building throughout this recession, and people have embraced it. No NIMBYs around.

I'd think people in Phoenix would fantasize about blotting out the Sun completely. It's their cruel, evil tyrant. NY and Chicago? Not so much - it's more like an absentee parent that shows up part of the year and tries a little too hard to make up for lost time.

Close, but not quite. Look closer at the graphic.

Great updates. It's been difficult to gauge the progress from street level but these are great!

I thought the building would extend all the to 58th St.

In this photo - it looks like there will be a plaza on the 58th side. I am wrong?

There's a few floors and then a setback. No plaza.

I said, that SOUNDS like some of the arguments people would give...Something really pretty arbitrary.

Financing Near for Major New York Condo-Hotel Tower

By CRAIG KARMIN
July 29, 2011

Quote:
Extell Development Co. is on the verge of securing a $700 million construction loan for the 1,000-foot condominium and hotel tower it is building on West 57th street across from Carnegie Hall, according to people familiar with the matter.

Bank of America and Banco Santander are leading a lending group that is in the process of syndicating the debt. A deal could close before the end of September, say people familiar with the matter.

The developer's partner in the $1.4 billion project is an Abu Dhabi government fund, which controls most of the equity. That fund is also supporting the loan by agreeing to buy any unsold condo units at a certain price, these people say.

Extell has already begun construction of the project which now stands 22 stories above ground. Up until this point, it has been financing work entirely with equity.

I don't understand why Extell is involved in this.. This building is going to be nothing but hotels and luxury condos.

You are aware that Extell's primary business is building hotels and luxury condos, correct?

Why is this listed as 1,003 ft.?

Most sources list the height at 1,005 ft.

A few list at 1,082 ft. I have no clue which is correct, but 1,005 seems to be the most common listed height.

^^ CTBUH still lists it as 1,005 ft but Portzamparc's website as 1,003 ft.

^Dino & I concluded the main reason should be elevations, CTBUH is counting from the lowest open air entrance while De Portzamparc is measuring from the main lobby entrance. Sadly I lost the info to prove it.
