It is quiet expensive.. on average, things cost 50% more here than in Japan.

Yeah. I thought it was home stuff. Look at the picture of the Metrotown store. You wouldn't expect to find clothes in there lol

I haven't been to this one but wish they or Daiso would open in Brentwood.

Also, didn't know the Leone's were behind RYU.
The Leones sold Leone a while back and their son Marcelo bought RYU and brought it to Canada from Oregon.

Daiso is in Richmond because of an agreement between Daiso and Fairchild Group, they hold the licensing and franchise rights for North America, one would have to seek out a franchise to open a store.

I went by Queensborough Landing yesterday, the old Best Buy has a sign saying Old Navy coming soon. There must have been at least a dozen empty stores though, I know a few of them moved to the airport outlet though.

Looks ripe for a redevelopment to add a few more big box anchors (Michaels, Dollarama)
... but Big Bend is fairly pretty close by and Winners/Homesense and others.

58/59 could also end up as a Club 16 / Orange Theory Fitness etc.

PS - the Orange Theory Fitness at The Spot on Cambie looks close to opening if not already open.

Even the Wal Mart there is a lot quieter ever since Scottsdale, Richmond & RCC locations opened.

------------
Parkland Fuels own the On the Run brand in Canada now, wonder when their Chevron locations will be converted from Town Pantry (although I think there's still a grace period for 7/11 to convert their Esso's)

Not sure if posted here, but found this interesting. New Horizon mega mall in Calgary is sitting almost entirely empty.

Things aren't nearly as bad as reported (and yes, I'm in the video) -- I was just at the ICSC Conference in Toronto and New Horizon will be announcing an entertainment concept (well known) as well as a flood of new retail tenants (stay tuned).

Yes I've noticed that too about the walmart there, its almost a ghost town at times now.

Winners is opening in RCC soon.

Aberdeen Square is still mostly empty this many years later. I think the buy and lease out model doesn't work that well.

Not doing well ONLY because it's not a city centre or downtown mall. Even in Vancouuver, a few more downtown malls will actually be a good thing, but I can't the say the same for those outlying ones.

I don't know much about Calgary demographics but I don't think they have a large Asian population to support such a huge mall. Calgary is very easy to drive and this mall is across from crossiron mills apparently. It looks like Parker Place on steroids, very tiny useless shops.
