New Orleans’ largest cruise ship ever arrives on Sunday

Know this was discussed previously. New article on nola today.

Norwegian Breakaway, the largest ship to call New Orleans its home port, will arrive in the city on Sunday (Nov. 11). The ship will sail a regular rotation of multi-day cruises to the Caribbean.

Norwegian Cruise Line announced last year it would bring the 3,963-passenger ship to New Orleans, nearly doubling its cruise capacity from the city. Breakaway will offer a rotation of five, seven, 10 and 11-day cruises to the western Caribbean. The cruises launch next week and run through April 2019.

In a news release, Andy Stuart, president and CEO of Norwegian Cruise Line, said the company was “excited” to introduce the ship to New Orleans. The ship previously sailed from New York City to the Caribbean.

Excellent news for the City of New Orleans!! I had to see it for myself to believe it, and I found some photos of the bars being removed. I'm wowed at how much more attractive the building looks like already.

yeah i believe there was some fighting between the developers and SHPO about those bars but ultimately was decided the keeping of the bars would kill marketability of the building.. ask the new york times how much they like the bars on their headquarters?

1047 Camp

Also looks like sitework for the garage portion next to the IVES building may be starting since they are now done with the IVes renovation.

Noticed today behind Herbsaint, I believe 722 Girod (?) has started construction! That was designed by EDR with a pretty sleek facade on it.

Also according to curbed 1100 annunciation has started construction slated to be done late 2020, I've definitely seen trucks out there daily probably doing prep work with plans inside the trailer.

Does anybody have an update on the CarMax in Kenner? This article says that it will be opening in their fourth quarter, ending Feb 2019. I haven't seen anything about it and wanted to see if it's still on track.

On the economic development front:

New Orleans GE wind power unit to expand, research wind turbine blades; up to 100 new jobs

Between this and Dixie Beer, good news for the East.

This is exciting news for New Orleans east this makes me very happy. Economically the city is starting to come around full circle, still a lot of work to be done but we are moving in the right direction. I’ve also been keeping an eye on other development announcements between Nashville and Austin and seems like New Orleans has become more hot then them two when it comes to Tech announcements. Starting to hear around town that the New Orleans-Baton Rouge region is experiencing what Austin experienced like 20 years ago.

The Kalorama is such a great looking building. The design and the name are so old-school cool.
