I'm surprised by the size of Hamilton's CBD. Even though it looks a little worned out, there is a lot of potential. It could easily be uplifted. There are a lot of nice old buildings.

Nice. Love the clarity and color. I like the back lighting effect with the silhouetted pedestrians. The city looks cold as hell and warm and inviting at the same time.

As a wimpy Texan I can appreciate you braving the cold. Thanks flar!

Lot's of good stuff; some bad; but much potential. Reminds me quite a bit of London (Ontario).

Having only been to one Canadian city (Victoria) so far in my life, I can't comment with any knowledge as to how bad, or good, of a city Hamilton is. But, from all the pictures I've seen, it seems like a really interesting city. And these pictures do show that the downtown is quite lively. Definitely a place I'd go visit.

For whatever it's worth, I always find myself clicking on a Hamilton thread when I see one. I can't say the same thing about a Toronto or Vancouver one. Great job and thanks for sharing!

Canada's "worst" major city looks better than most American major cities. Cool pics.

Hamilton's quite a nice city IMO. Its biggest problem is that it gets overshadowed by Toronto.

Nice pics Flar.

So you crafty little devil you come up with another killer thread!
As Tony pointed out, the title is a bit harsh, but hey, if the shoe fits wear it.
I think that the shoe definitely fits.....shame too, because as your threads amply illustrate Hamilton is also quality.
BTW, I love the way you tweak your photos......not too much, but just enough!
Anyway, once again, fantastic job.

Very cool, looks like a great place to live! So nice to see many of the historical buildings still being used and/or erect!

I'm impressed. As you noted, a lot of gorgeous vintage buildings are badly in need of investment, but there's a great eclectic mix of architecture. Lots of activity, with people on the street. It looks pretty lively.

Bitter cold weather often yields clear air and great pics if you can stand it. Great shots.
Awww c'mon Bette, don't be too rough on the town.

I don't care what anyone says, I like the place, grit and all.

Thanks Flar.

After the title and the "shunned by the NHL comment," I expected this to be about Winnipeg.

I was pleasantly surprised, nonetheless.

Another excellent piece. I walk all of those streets almost every day and yet I still find things in your pictures that I've never noticed before. Good job again.

Beautiful pictures! Nice work

Why does Hamilton have so much abandonment? All that hustle and bustle and beautiful architecture...

Well, its embarrassment time for me.

I can admit that I'd never really heard of Hamilton before this thread, maybe I have come across the name a couple of times but I certainly didnt know it was one of Canada's major cities or know how to locate it on a map.

Anyway, the city looks great and I hope it sees the improvements it much desires very soon!

I agree....thats the one thing that seems to ruin downtown Hamilton, that the major arteries are one-way, so nobody stops they use it as a passage to get to the other side of the city.

It does have a great stock of older buildings with tremendous potential

Great thread Flar! With the continued growth in Southern Ontario and Toronto becoming far too pricey for new home buyers ... Hamilton is gonna make power moves. I'll bet downtown Hamilton goes through a major resurgence in the next 15 years.
Good luck Hammer!

as a downtown resident I can assure you that the BIGGEST problem we face is the one-way streets. Our city council is stuck in the 1950's and thinks they're great.
Although they did convert 2 streets to 2-way a few years ago and they have seen an amazing turnaround of new businesses, renovations and vibrant street life begin to develop.
Sadly, our own council, business "leaders" and major media would rather save 2 minutes on their high speed trip through town instead of make a few simple changes that would revolutionize our downtown and make it a place for people again.
I suspect the turnaround won't happen for 2-3 decades. by then the majority of the politicians will be from the next generation (who are the largest group moving back downtown in droves right now) and hopefully won't have their heads up their backsides like the current crop.
