So it seems like Desart isn't actually leased.

A&W temporarily leased it to turn it into the "Root Brewery" to shoot an ad during the Osborne Street Canada Day fest.

Bummer.

Upstairs is taking over the Endo space next door to expand the bar. They will also then be bringing IN the angled outside wall to increase the size of their patio.

Bummer.
It's owned by Basil and I believe Desart was run by his wife so I'm sure it's wildly overpriced and will now just sit empty for as long as that stubborn coot is still around.

^Yup. He owns half of Osborne. There's always talks on here of how it's mostly "slum landords" or just bad ones on Osborne, which is one of the reasons it's in its current state.... he's one of them.

Also, their BIZ is clearly a joke.

Interesting. What else is he into? And speaking of crappy places in the village, Upstairs is terrible. They barely bothered to paint the place, it's so half assed.

Regardless of paint job, it seems to be pretty popular (judging by the line-ups anyway). Anything that's bringing more people to the area is a good thing, in my opinion...

Yeah it kinda sucks but the drinks are cheap and they have a good wing night. It's a popular place to start or end your night. And agreed, it's bringing and keeping a lot of younger people there that may not be coming to the Village otherwise. Better than another nightclub or a slow restaurant. And with the shape the Village is in right now, I'll take any place that's busy.

Also, it's funny because that's the original location, but definitely the worst... sometimes you can taste the burning plastic in the air from the salon next door.
that's irritating.

what half baked plan does he have to need the space back? That's the on'y angle that makes sense.

Osborne has the character and clientele to attract more discerning patrons and stay busy. Cheap drinks are everywhere, give me a busy place with good drinks. THAT location deserves better than just a frat-boy menu.

Huge new sign up on the Osborne hotel that says "HIGH DEMAND UPPER FLOORS OFFICE SPACE FOR LEASE"

... so they gave up on their plan? God they need to flip this property. I wonder if Sparrow Hotels (Inn at the Forks, Mere, Norwood) would be interested in building here. You've got to think there's a sizeable market for a (boutique) hotel in the Village.

^ Yeah, I noticed that sign... there is clearly no plan, it's just twisting in the wind until someone with $ comes along.

Good; perhaps we will see a developer build a new boutique hotel.

No room at inn for micro-apartments
Murray McNeill

A plan to convert the top two floors of the former Osborne Village Inn into micro-apartments has been scrapped.

Instead, they will be redeveloped as boutique office space, one of the listing agents for the Osborne Street property said.

Ken Yee, senior vice-president of Cushman & Wakefield Winnipeg, said the developer — Winnipeg’s Fusion Capital Corp. — had second thoughts about going with apartments because of the type of retail tenants that likely will open on the main floor of the three-storey building.

Yee said it looks like the 4,600 square feet on the north half of the main floor will likely be leased to a pizzeria bistro and to a western-based coffee house...

... well if they have the 2 main floor tenants signed already, don't thing the building is going anywhere. I just hope if it stays they'll at least landscape the front...

"Western based coffee house" = Blenz?

In any case, I hope they tear down the green metal thing and install a patio as the last renders had suggested. That stretch could use it.

^ Could be Good Earth? Does Blenz exist outside of the GVRD?

Ah, good point. Never heard of Good Earth. Looks like it's mostly Calgary based, but they're opening one in the outlet mall here?

Good Earth was originally supposed to go in Centrepoint when they announced it, I assume where there is now another Tims.

Good Earth website says a location has been franchised in Winnipeg and will open in the fall of 2017. Does not give a street address though
