Just got off the phone with Setai in South Beach. That is the only other location that there is a hotel branded as a "Setai" they are part of GHM hotels which has 15 locations mostly in South East Asia! Kinda cool

I think it should bring a very interesting flair to downtown SD.

THE BEST THING : She said that it is definitely a 5 star hotel at least the Miami Beach location. She said she didn't know if the San Diego location was going to be as luxurious and be dubbed a 5 star...

Lets keep our fingers crossed and hope it is because then downtown SD will have 2 --- 5 star hotels. Ivy and Setai. Throw in the Grande Del Mar in Carmel Valley and SD County will have 5 --- five stars. Not bad.

Here is the website: www.ghmhotels.com

Now if we get a Four Seasons, Shangri La, Ritz Carlton, or Mandarin Oriental downtown we will be ballin fo sho

lane field

These are some renderings of Lane Field I pulled off the port's latest addendum to the North Embarcadero environmental study. I think these are new, they have October 2007 dates.

The hotel on the south is Intercontinental, the north is called Vivara.

The Lane Field buildings look so...what's the word I'm looking for?

Oh yeah, they look bad.

The Lane Field buildings don't look good. The combination of them, NBC, and 700 West Broadway makes me pessimistic about the future of our great city's skyline. Too boxy and little to no variation of height, especially on the waterfront.

^Yeah, 700W Broadway doesn't please me at all in the rendering. I feel bad for OAP.

A freakin insult... What the hell happened to the sails that were suppose to go on top? That's the only thing that really made these towers stand out! And now they're just going to be big, BLOCKY Boxes!

Look at the top rendering... Look at all those flat top buildings and lack of articulation. So sad. And those new hotels are so short and fat... Continuing the trend of blocking view corridors....

Funny this picture doesn't show the 'fabulous' new cruise ship terminal on the Broadway Pier. Anyone been by that lately... I love those beautiful plastic orange terror barriers and that super classy chain link fence. Not to mention the awesome hardscape.

The Port does such a classy job. It also will be so nice to have all those buses and taxi cabs driving all over the new North Embarcadero improvements. Can't wait.

Grow up San Diego.

Aren't there people fighting this? How can the port without any kind of design review throw up anything they want? I thought that they complained about lack of funds but the building was going to go to redesign anyway. Am I missing something?

I actually hope 700W Broadway doesnt get built. If it does it will totally block OAP and our skyline will be lacking the only really iconic building it has, it will bemoe just like the Emerald Center, hidden.

I really dont have a problem with 700 W Broadway, but I have problem with its location... It blocks OAP... what the heck is the Irvine Co thinking. That is a trophy building and they now covered it up! And they own it! They should have bought the lot just south and put it 700 W Broadway there.

I think their are some 'trying to fight it'... The Port went in typical reactive mode and had some public workshop to appease the public. I think someone should sue them for not getting a coastal commission permit to do what they did. But I guess the improvements fit in well with the vistor's center trailer in tan and red across the street.

The Port of San Diego should be disbanned and roled into a City department and finally be accountable to the public.

Just watched the movie I'm all for it. Lets do it the way they suggest. And btw, what has happened to the Park at the County Admin building??? Wasn't that supposed to be done years ago. I remember plans saying it should be ready in 2004...

San Diego simply doesn't get things done. Maybe instead of looking to Vancouver we should look to Chicago, a city that gets its goals accomplished look at Millennium Park

The difference between San Diego and Chicago... Hmmm Let's see... Ah a mayor that is passionate and a champion of a downtown....Not a retired old policeman with no vision and no staff.

Good grief! They tell us that the project has been taken back to the drawing board and this what we end up with?!? Pure crap. At least the original design below made a statement (whether you liked it or not).

Here's a bit of good news for a change. It looks like our poor excuse for an airport will be served by a new airline. $78 roundtrip to SFO sounds good to me

Virgin America Kicks Off San Diego Service

Virgin America said Nov. 7 that tickets went on sale for daily flights between its home base of San Francisco International Airport and Lindbergh Field for service beginning Feb. 12.

Initially, there will be three daily flights, but the route will expand to five starting March 9. Connecting flights will also be available from San Diego via San Francisco International to New York’s JFK and Washington Dulles airports, the airline announced.

Fares on Virgin America’s San Diego to San Francisco route will start at $39 one way in economy class and at $149 one way in first class. All fares require a 21-day advance purchase.

The carrier’s new fleet of planes offers leather seats as well as an in-flight entertainment system that allows passengers to order food, watch movies, watch satellite TV, play video games, select from more than 3,000 MP3 music tracks, and send messages to other fliers by use of a video touch screen and keyboard at every seat.
