Actually, I'm looking forward to sampling the product - it's quite exciting to have a cidery in the city - yet another example on how Halifax is growing and diversifying to become a truly interesting place to live.

Old guys think alike; well, maybe not Keith.

When we drove by my wife said 'it's an urban cidery, with an Urban sign.'

"We are excited to expand into the Maritimes with our new Halifax store," said Stephen Schober, President and CEO of Metal Supermarkets. "Halifax businesses with metal needs can now enjoy the speed, variety and convenience that Metal Supermarkets is known for."

Metal Supermarkets Halifax serves a wide variety of businesses and customers including tool and die shops, manufacturers, machinists, maintenance managers, fabricators, machine shops, contractors, construction companies, military, healthcare, education and other government departments, as well as hobbyists and home owners.

Metal Supermarkets stores stock a diverse selection of metal types including hot-rolled steel, cold-rolled steel, stainless steel and aluminum in a wide variety of shapes including bar, tube, sheet, plate and more. The new store also offers value-added services such as production saw-cutting, shearing and same-day delivery.
I have been buying small and medium quantities of metal from this chain for almost 30 years. For people who need odd shapes of metal this place is the place to go. If you need a 2" x 2" x 2" block of steel (for example), they can supply it with no minimum quantity, or just about any other shape or dimension from I beams to heavy duty steel channel, and just about everything in between.

There are many people who will love this place. Here is a link to their website - https://www.metalsupermarkets.com/about-us/history/

Has anyone checked out the new Metal Supermarket? It isn't for everyone, but anyone who needs small amounts of metal of all kinds, will love it.

Mic Mac doesn't have one. Maybe Penhorn? (Which was already scheduled to close). Really sucks that the outlet store is closing too, that place was good for appliances.

Sorry, my error re : Mic Mac, thanks for the clarification. Have heard rumours of the possible closure of the HSC location too and the possibility of Simons taking over. I guess the eventuality at this point is the complete demise of Sears altogether which is likely coming shortly.

Sears Canada to apply to liquidate all remaining stores, affecting 12,000 jobs

Quote:
Sears Canada is seeking court approval to liquidate all of its remaining stores and assets, after failing to find a “viable” solution to allow it to continue to stay in business, the company announced in a statement on Tuesday.

The liquidation will affect 12,000 jobs, including the company’s Toronto head office and 11 stores that the company announced it would shut last week, a spokesperson for Sears Canada told Global News via email. Approximately three-quarters of those positions are part-time.

Too bad. I was talking to staff in the HSC store this past summer and was told that the Halifax store apparently was doing well.

UK Fashion Brand OASIS Said to be Entering Canadian Market
October 18, 2017

By Mario Toneguzzi

Is famous international women’s fashion store Oasis, based in the United Kingdom, poised to enter the North American market with its first location at the Halifax Shopping Centre?

...

“It’s pretty surprising. It’s the first one in North America. It’s an international tenant with 400 retail stores . . . They’re in every continent. It’s absolutely amazing that Halifax Shopping Centre would be the first one in North America,” says Allen.

...

She also says Levi’s will be arriving in late 2017.

“It will be one of the first stores that they have in Eastern Canada as well,” adds Schnare.

We've had the "1852" (or whatever it's called) brand store, but this is apparently different than a "Levi's" store.

I was sad to hear that Rock Candy was closing it's Downtown Halifax store. I've purchased a lot of T-shirts that were hard for me to find from other vendors.

the 1852 was a branding agreement run by Pantorama

this is owned by Levi's

Maritime Centre pushing all the tenants from the basement floor,
Nick's closed in the fall, Fancy Nails moved to South Park, Dustjacket is moving over to the Brewery Market. The rest will be leaving too

part of the Maritime Centre renovation will have a new food court a level up and I have heard (rumour) they have already signed McDs
