That's the Dominion Public Building - home of Public Works and Government Services Canada. I worked there for a couple of summers on the ground floor with their IT staff doing websites for various projects, including the Confederation Bridge.

It's hard to judge when you see just one side of the street. Indeed, that side of the street "looks like New York", it's got highrises and density, what else do we need?

Here is one of my personal pics, it shows a canyon with both sides of the street visible, so it's easier to judge.

Not really what I would've expected...
Wow, thanks for the recognition! it took quite some work to prove that Montreal deserves to be on top.

We can't win.

I should have beat francely to the punch and started, " Canada's Tallest Canyons"
Haha, well you can always post some more (other than Bay, University, King, Wellington) if you don't want Toronto to be buried

More minor canyons...

the 2nd gap on the right side is Altitude's (33 storeys) construction site

St-François-Xavier Street looking north, June 19, 2010 (...by the way it's a very bad idea to drive in the central part of Old Montreal, at virtually any time)

St-Pierre Street looking north, June 19, 2010

Toronto wins. (I live in Calgary) Our canyons need another 50 years to develop properly and have some life to them.

Calgary's skyline and core is impressive for a small city and we are really starting to embrace building upwards and living in the core. I had such a good weekend in our great little city and so did many others. The streets and river pathways were absolutley packed with people and the river is clear as a diamond.

We have a long way to go to be anything like Montreal, Toronto or Vancouver but I like it here even if we dont win "top canyon"

I don't think Toronto's canyons are improving, but I think Cal's picture-taking of them certainly is.

Cal, you are doing a much better job of portraying the canyon shape (even with streets that lack continuity, to be considered true canyons in Traynor's world.)

Lately you have been showing some damn fine examples of Canadian canyons. Keep up the better work.

Mwahahahaha

Toronto has some cool canyons but they always seem to have weird gaps and things missing that don't make them quite compare to NYC's. I suppose this will improve with all the scraper projects that are undergoing.

I like Montreal's old town canyons. Those are awesome. Hamilton used to have one along James South between King and Main. Montreal reminds me of it.
