Bad proposals don't make a bad city, Bad proposals that are allowed to be built makes a bad city. This, however, has no chance of being built.

Mark my words, nothing less than 40 floors will be approved for 3rd and Capitol while I'm still breathing. I'll make sure of that.

I just got something interesting this morning at 3rd and Capitol Mall a hotel job is in the planning process. Owners are awaiting city approvals and schedules to be announced. I don’t have a image of the hotel but it is only going to be 9 stories / 300 rooms. That’s all I know but if this goes down I am going to be really depressed with all this waiting and that’s all we get. I would imagine that there is still room for a larger building to go up later but really only 9 stories. Thoughts?
I think you got some bogus rumors for the site. My source within CALPers
say "CIM is looking at options but a hotel is not part of it." I think were several
years from any plans coming forth, but that's my personal opinion.

Keep it classy

Sacramento will OK the 9-story hotel after they agree to use polished granite (like my kitchen countertop) on the first floor and install a 31-story 'artistically lighted' billboard on top of it. They are already using the phrases 'downtown landmark' and 'new signature building'...I'm so excited.

Dreams Dashed yet again

The landmark should be the world largest 24 hr swimming pool. Sacramento would definitely be considered a must see city in the US.

Whatever happens here I would like to see something less boxy. Lets get some buildings with less right angles, look at how nice CalSTRS east face turned out.

I completely agree. Although I admit I do like the "framing" of Capitol Mall that has happened with the new highrises the past couple of years, with points at the top exagerrating the Mall corridor.

Oh for sure, I want a canyon from Tower Bridge to the Cap, and actually if there's going to be some hard angled buildings that stretch would be the place for em. You can see what you described real well coming west into town on 50, especially right around SMUD/CSUS area, 500 and 621 do a great job of framing that corridor. I was just daydreaming about Sac in general I guess :/

What I'm wondering is that since it's been so long why don't they just wait for the economy to rebound or build half of it at first.

Guys, the Towers weren't canceled because of the economy. They were canceled because John Saca, the developer, done goofed: he screwed up.
