I think the Sears Tower looks perfect as it is.

eh as i posted in the Willis Towers thread i just think some new paint and refurbishing of the windows would do it a little good...i mean it is 36 years old.

I could support that. I was getting nightmares about an all glass Willis Tower or something like that. My point was that I love the deep black color of this tower. The actual style of the building seems perfect to me.

Verizon Building is the biggest eyesore Downtown. It's unfortunate the planned reclad has been put on hold.

22 Cortlandt is a little boring, but I'm sure there are far worse eyesores in New York... hell, there are worse eyesores just Downtown.

Agree. I like it the way it is, but it definitely needs an exterior restoration badly.

i thought the Willis Tower was being refurbished, including replacing the current glass with more energy efficient glass. The renovation is not altering the appearance though.

the only reason i added 22 Courtlandt st. was because its so close to the WTC site and its just so blah...i mean One Liberty Plaza is beautiful and even the Millennium Hilton is nice with is black glass facade though 22 Courtlandt is so bland it usually just blends in with the background and offers nothing to the skyline overall.

the sears tower is clad with black anodized aluminum panels. you can't just slap a coat of paint on it like you would on your house and be done with it, it's a much more complicated process.

there's been talk of plans to refurbish/replace the facade to make the building consume less energy, but all it has been so far is just talk.

well whatever it is doesn't matter,as a national icon it deserves a tune up

^As a national icon it deserves to be left alone...that's what made it a national icon. Of course it looks 36 years old, that's because it's 36 years old. What would be left to preserve if we changed what made it worth preserving?

so we shouldn't fix up and up keep or national icons.....? just let them fall apart? im not saying to change it in anyway, not the color,design or style just clean the aluminum and refurbish the windows whats so bad about that?

I misunderstood you apparently, I thought you meant the building should be altered to keep it up to current fashion.

Willis Tower IS in the planning/analysis stages of a full reno. I had the pleasure of being present for a presentation by the architect behind it, Sara Beardsley of Adrian Smith and Gordon Gill.

I don't have a problem with concrete, but this one never sat easily with its surroundings. Now it blends in so well with the sky, I can't take my eyes of it, when I'm in the centre of town.
