Because he sells a lot of his footage to news outlets or for other commercial/professional uses. If you look at his channel, most of his videos are of emergencies and things. A news channel would commonly only use 10-15 seconds of footage, probably looped a couple times over a minute or two. They'd see spending a couple hundred bucks on his footage as a bargain versus sending a camera and crew out to the scene.

Looking at the photos above, I can certainly see why emergency vehicles sound so much louder in Toronto, Montreal and other large cities as compared to Timmins.

55$/sec is not that much, spectacular videos can go for 100$/sec easily.

Tower neighbourhoods aren't superb to begin with, but Vancouver does them a heck of a lot better than most cities. The tower neighbourhoods in Toronto are absolutely terrible. I hope Calgary and Montreal are following the Vancouver model. Pin cushion or whatever, at least there's cohesion.

That's actually a very fair price. The biggest use for footage like that would be for commercials. Most spots would only need about 3 - 6 seconds of footage a spot so that's peanuts for most post companies, I know I work in one. Even lets say an entire 20 second spot needed his footage it would only cost $1100, that really is nothing when even cheap commercials cost 10's of thousands of dollars to complete.

Rene Levesque Blvd will likely be my favourite urban canyon in Canada when it builds out a little more. University Avenue in Toronto will improve a lot too but it's not long enough.

Lol you'really comparing a narrow street to a wide boulevard? Adelaide street hands down has the best urban canyon. Old meets new.

University at least in Toronto is more of a valley then a canyon.

Like University Ave in TO, Rene-Levesque boulevard's strength is its diversity. From east to west it contains a wide variety of structures like 19th century church spires and seminaries to skyscrapers built in almost every decade of the 20th century. It also contains a wide array of land-uses such as the residential clusters on both extremities and a dense corporate core in the middle. It's highlight from a pedestrian perspective is probably at the corner of University.

It seriously lacks proper sidewalks, street furniture, trees and other streetscape enhancements though. Also, a dedicated transit line (such as a BRT connecting Atwater to papineau) would help make this street more of a destination.

Rene Levesque is not a narrow street and what difference does it make any way. A canyon's strength lies in its proportion of width to building heights. If a street is wide it just needs taller buildings to achieve the same look. One other characteristic that factors in is setbacks; they take away from the canyon effect.
