Chicago-Gold Coast Neighborhood from Above.

These photos show the transition of the Gold Coast neighborhood in Chicago, Illinois from January 2013, to yesterday evening (May 11th, 2013). The Gold Coast is home to many historic mansions, which date back to the late 1800's, and is intermixed with many average size highrises. These pictures depict one of my favorite changes of seasons; From hibernation to life. As much as I enjoy the warm days and nights of summer in Chicago, as a born and raised child of Illinois, there will be something I always enjoy about "Light Jacket Season".

Second City, Old Town, Old Children's Memorial Hospital, and Optima Old Orchard in Skokie, Illiniois off in the distance.

I'll never understand 1000 Magnificent Mile and that stupid tall hat. What the hell is up there? Since I live opposite of it, I've brought out the binoculars to try and take a look but still can't figure it out.

Gorgeous photos though. I love the close views of downtown from up high with the lake as a backdrop.

Enjoyed seeing these photos. I was actually just checking out summer airfares between DC and Chicago. Need to get my Chicago fix soon!

(Oh, and I too enjoy light jacket weather.)

Here's a shot I took from the top of the Hancock about a month ago.

Beautiful and enviable views, J_M_Tungsten! Thanks for sharing.

Gold Coast is a very nice area. I remember it perfectly. We visited Astor street, Washington square park and Newberry Library in our way to Lincoln Park. I remember we saw Lamborghini and Bentley Gold Coast in North Rush street, and some of its "cheap" cars in the street.

We really enjoyed our visit there, above all Astor street. Beautiful historic houses! Lovely area.

Congrats and greetings from Madrid, Spain!

great shots. it always suprises me how very little people develop the rooftop of their building. that would be the first thing i did if i were on the top level and had the go ahead. make some cool city deck to chill out on. i love chicago also. thanks.

Yes, it seems the Gold Coast hasn't changed much over the past 30-40 years. I'll definitely be supporting the proposed 485' glass tower known as "The Tower of Jewel" on the corner of Clark and Division. It will be replacing the current Jewel grocery store with a new store and a 30+ story tower on the site. Also, it replaces the current surface parking lot in front of Jewel. A positive, and modern, upgrade to the neighborhood.

JHC, 900 N, and 1 Mag Mile, all lost in a San Francisco fog. Gotta love it!

I've been playing Hitman absolution lately (great game) and they make Chicago looks so damn good. I just had to come to SSP and get my Chicago fix. Beautiful, pictures and city.
