Well, the dates for the Los Angeles 1932 and 1984 Summer Olympics were nearly identical:

In 1932: July 30-August 14

In 1984: July 28-August 12

We don't have humid summers in LA.

Summers in L. A. can be pretty miserable. Last summer was delightful, but the summer of 2009 saw me running the air conditioner for much of the time.

Of course, for me, the perfect summer is in San Francisco, where they don't have one. :-)

I'm with you there; I love summers in San Francisco. In fact for me, SF has the ideal weather.

Summers in LA can be very hot, but it depends on where in LA. After having moved to South Pasadena 13 years ago, I really hate the summers in the San Gabriel Valley. My parents had friends who lived in Woodland Hills, so from the time I was a child, I knew the San Fernando Valley can feel like a furnace in the summertime. The LA Basin, which can get hot, is more tolerable than the Valleys during the summer. But yes, the beach cities (excluding Long Beach) have the best summer weather in LA County.

Of course the Argentines would be celebrating with a barbecue.

A note about the Aussies; they're one of the few nations who've actually sent delegations to all of the modern Olympics; they've never boycotted an Olympics, nor have they ever been banned from the Olympics (for example like South Africa during Apartheid or Germany immediately after World War I).

I agree... I have been to San Francisco in July and I found it to be very cold for summer... In LA we do experience 2 or 3 weeks that are unbearably hot in summer, but the evenings tend to be cooler.
