Thumbs up Yellowknife - Best small skyline in Canada

Welcome to my new thread devoted to Canada's best skyline with a population under 100,000... and believe it or not, Yellowknife only has 19,500... Think your city could do better with that population?

If you look in the last picture, I live in the tallest building. My condo occupies a portion of the 17th and 18th floors, and the views are amazing! I'll be posting more pics, but if anyone else has any nice ones of Yellowknife, please post them!

i love it. i think Prince Albert, Sask, would give it a run though. here is a link with some photo's taken by various people of and for the city of prince albert.

I don't think P.A., with twice the population, holds a candle to Yellowknife. To each his own.

and i mean it would give it a run, i don't mean is is nicer. yellow knife is still king of small northern cities. i think that prince albert could have a better skyline with one or two good towers. North Battleford, Sask, has great potential as well. Nice picture and thank you for sharing that.

Wow, that is really impressive for such a small town. My college town had that many people and I think the tallest building there was 4 stories.

In a word; why?
Is there some tourist industry there or something?

I'm leaning towards a large mining influence in Yellowknife, perhaps? But yes, the aurora is amazing! Though a very scary thought is that -37C is nearly the same in fahrenheit! (-35, I just checked!)

I would go and especially go out to take pictures if I could take a space suit with me.

I can think of many reasons. More efficient buildings, more compact, leading to less road paving, repair, and snow clearing, less utility distances. The list goes on. All adding up to less energy use, and a place with charm to boot. Just because there's plenty of land around doesn't mean you have to blanket it with one-stories and asphalt. Sadly, this mentality is all too rare in the US.

Thanks for the pics, this is quite a revelation. High today of 45F/7C here. Too cold!
