No, the balconies in and of themselves aren't a bad thing, and the ones at the base are quite nice as they act as setbacks. But the form of the tower would be much sleeker if those curves were uninterrupted glass. It all depends on whether they use similar glass for the balconies on the tower, or if they use the fritted/screened glass like the railings on the base. If they go with the latter, you'll lose the reflectivity of the glass (dull reflective vs. bright reflective), and that part of the overall composition will stand out, and visually act as another volume attached to the overall form. Not bad, necessarily, just not as awesome and sleek as it could be.
I guess we'll see once we see the finished product. The towers in Mississauga turned out pretty nice, so maybe this one will too.
