Great picture, Jerry.

It looks like they can use these lights in some interesting ways by combining/layering the internal and external lighting. Looking forward to it.

Pretty decent video of some more lighting tests - looks like they're getting close.

I imagine the displays will be time and occasion appropriate. The opportunity to do so is certainly there. There looks to be a number of general display modes and schemes to chose from, plus new displays will be created throughout time. But yes, I am also looking forward to seeing it more for certain what is to be.

Lots of different patterns tonight. Also a scene of people walking on the street. It was light a giant television.

Wow, Oakland skyline in the background is starting to look very pathetic. They need to start catching up now and balance it out.

There are a ton of high rises that are in the works for Oakland.

Oakland's skyline will always be the overweight person with the good personality when compared to SF's skyline.

From the Chronicle:

Visible 20 miles away: Salesforce Tower art lights up the SF skyline during testing

After a few more weeks of testing, the lights will begin their permanent display sometime in May, exact date not yet determined.

Sneak peek: Light installation atop Salesforce Tower
Jim Campbell’s light show will make its official debut next week
By Brock Keeling@BrockKeeling May 16, 2018, 2:11pm PDT
SHARE

Before the May 22 unveiling of the light installation on the tip of Salesforce Tower—a permanent multi-million dollar LED video piece by Jim Campbell—check out a preview of what’s in store.

Over the last couple of weeks, the installation’s practice run has enticed, delighted, and perplexed many wondering what on earth is happening on top of the city’s tallest high-rise. So far the scene shows a montage of joggers, pedestrians, and clouds.

Campbells’s work can be seen on the top six floors of the structure covered in roughly 11,000 LED lights. According to SFGate, Campbell placed cameras around the city “that will take photos around the city during the day and these will be displayed on the building’s crown at night.”

The work is reportedly visible from 20 miles away . . . .

Happy Salesforce Tower Opening Day!

Marc Benioff to dedicate Salesforce Tower with speech on civic priorities

Salesforce Tower opens with fireworks and light display at 1070 feet
Quote:
Salesforce is opening its colossal tower rising above the San Francisco skyline with great fanfare Tuesday. The lights will go on at the top of the tallest building west of the Mississippi this evening to display a permanent multi-million-dollar art installation by San Francisco artist Jim Campbell. A 15-minute fireworks display is also scheduled to explode from the top of the 61-story building on Mission St. at 8 pm.
Atop Salesforce Tower the world's highest work of art
Quote:
The show will begin each night with the colors of the sunset, whatever they may be— red, gold, purple or white in the fog. “Day for Night” will run from dusk to midnight and then it will show a constellation of stars until sunrise. Campbell will spend the first few months trying to figure out what works. He already knows what doesn’t — a camera fixed on a street corner to show the people crossing. “It feels too much like a surveillance camera,” he said. “I’m more interested in the pulse of the city.” Another thing that will not work is seasonal mood lighting, or colors linked to holidays or sports teams, like those that often bathe City Hall and Coit Tower. Advertising also is out of the question.
