Photo Contest #64 - Cashmas

I'm sure everyone's been awaiting this one eagerly.

Congratulations to LSyd and Sawtooth for the win in #63 Urban Nature.

Without further delay, they’ve chosen (with some help from me) the following subject for the next round:

“Cashmas” – Winter Madness

Okay, it’s a word I just made up. We’re looking for anything related to the overconsumerism of the holiday season. From giant lighting displays, packs of shoppers, crazy mall traffic on the weekends, the general rush of the holiday season, or anything else that says “I’ve lost the real meaning to Christmas, but I’m pretty sure I can buy it somewhere.”

We’re giving everyone a little extra time to fit in finding that perfect shot during the rush because I figure the options for entries are only going to get better the closer we get to the joy that is the holiday season. I’ll also apologize now to anyone who’s living in an area or culture that doesn’t have this joyous apocalyptic frenzy.

Now where's that Santa smiley?

As almost always:
- send a PM to HomeInMyShoes with your entry
- one entry per forumer, must be your own photo
- try not to enter a photo already entered in a previous contest
- maximum size is 800x600
- include the photo title in your message if you have and want a title
- entries must be in by December 18th (Wednesday) midnight

Previous rounds and winners. Let me know if you can remember a contest you won in the past or that was held. I'm missing approximately 20 subjects and 30 winners.

Awesome. I always say I'm gonna enter a comp. but I never do it!! And it's gonna be harder since my camera's flash broke

But I'll try this time since I go downtown a lot and to the mall. This is probably one of the best ideas ever! I love Cashmas.

This topic is widely open to interpretation. Should be a fun round.

I can help you fill in one of those blanks: I won the photo contest with "Empty" as the subject. Although I have no idea what number it was.

Ummm...we need a few more entries to make this worthwhile. Three is a bit short. I know everyone's busy with the end of the year panic, but I'll leave this open until the 20th midnight (Thursday) in hopes of a few more entries.

I'm sitting this one out. For whatever reason, what I think is a cool shot, no one else agrees with, and I tend to get zero votes as a result, like last time. I don't know - maybe I suck - but the continual exercise in self-flagellation doesn't do me any good, as I've never even come close to winning one of these.

The other thing is that I don't really have anything directly on point. I'm not hauling my gear to a mall only to be hassled by mall security, and Phoenix doesn't have any real outdoor/street scene shopping, so I'll pass.

^Aw come on Don. I'll back you up. I'm sure the photo of the mall security guards hauling you away will be the definite winner. Just try to get them dragging you by Santa.

^ You are as bad as my torts professor, who guaranteed an A to any student who would go to a major electronics store like Fry's Electronics or a Costco/Wal-Mart and refuse to show your receipt on the way out. Of course, her grade was conditioned upon you actually getting arrested after having some mega run-in with security, store management, etc. She did not think the store has any legal grounds for demanding you wait in yet another line after paying before leaving.

^Interesting. I'd think that since it is really a private business, then they could probably make you check out three times if they really wanted. Not that I frequent stores that make me do things like that. It's called customer choice...well, at least until Walmart and Costco own the world and there's no other place to shop at which point I'll be living in a cave banging the rocks together.

The Magic 8-ball was kind enough to grant LSyd a reprieve and an extra day, so you all get until the 24th now.

It's a definite go at that point. Then we can start the new year off with a fresh contest.
