Wow, as soon as the home-building business becomes profitable again there are already groups of builders trying to bash SACOG and the regional smart-growth blueprint. Sacramento County and Elk Grove are already demonstrating that they will readily ignore the regional blueprint without shame. What good is a regional growth plan if there is no way to enforce it? We need many more elected officials to step up and do what Mayor Cabaldon is doing before it's too late.

Maybe we need more than that--like a growth boundary that is actually enforceable, instead of being a mere suggestion (which is apparently too much for some people)?

I actually like the large image size. The hi-resolution photo filled up my mac screen beautifully, and it allows for one to really get a peek of the action going on. I say A+ photo size.

I saw recently it looks like they put up the concrete walls of the first level (what will be the parking garages), with more structures going up. Not sure when the higher floors will start going up, but you can get a feel of the footprints now and the space they will take up.

BRIDGE housing

BRIDGE housing

The planned West Capitol Commons which were to built across from Raley
Field baseball stadium does not look so good. It appears the area was
fenced off and the grading of the soil was started, but work has since
stopped and over grown weeds has taken over the area. Last year this area
at least had a function for Raley’s Field parking.

Another residential project, The Park Moderns, did a groundbreaking this past week in West Sac's Bridge District. 32 3 story market rate townhomes by Fulcrum will be built right next to the 6 story Rivermark. The fourth housing development around Raley's field.

Rivermark
The Ironworks
The Capitol Yards, formerly Capitol Commons
The Park Moderns

Four major construction underway simultaneously. The icing on the cake will be the 21 story first class Marriott International hotel and convention center. The groundbreaking for this project is scheduled to be on the first quarter of 2014.

21 stories on the riverfront? Not bad. Is it supposed to be that tall? Last I heard I thought it was downscaled to something like 12 stories.

But yes, looks like West Sac is doing a good job of filling that space in. Going to mean more residents closer to downtown. (or are we going to be considering that part of West Sac part of "downtown" now??)

There is a crane up at the Bridge(?) housing development.. a crane! The second floor looks like it's coming together. But ah, it's nice to see crane.

The third floor is going up on the Bridge Housing buildings.

More work is happening on the West Capitol condos just north of Raley Field.

Pioneer Bluff Bridge is going up across the barge canal, for a new road thatwill run parallel to Jefferson blvd.

Took a couple of photos this afternoon:

The Rivermark housing, looks like one more floor to go:

What I don't get is will anything else be going up near this anytime soon? It just seems so strange. This is going up literally in the middle of nothing. No convenience stores, amenities. It's just kind of "there." I hope more starts to go up around that building.

The West Capitol housing (whatever it's called now) just north of Raley field:

Not really much there, but this is the first I've seen anything going up.

I don't have pictures, but I believe they have just broken ground on a project that has housing on all 4 corners of Garden Park, just behind the building pictured.

West Sacramento considers negotiations for waterfront Marriott
Mark Anderson
Staff Writer - Sacramento Business Journal
Jan 15, 2014, 7:30am PST

"The West Sacramento City Council will decide tonight whether to enter into an exclusive 120-day period of negotiation with Portman Holdings LLC to develop a 300-room Marriott Hotel and a conference center on the banks of the Sacramento River.

It would be the first full-service Marriott in the downtown area. The only other full-service Marriott Hotel is in Rancho Cordova.

For years, the city of West Sacramento has been working to bring a full-service hotel to the waterfront, and after previous attempts have failed, the city now has an interested developer in Atlanta-based Portman Holdings, which has developed major hotels in San Francisco, San Diego, Atlanta, Los Angeles and Charlotte, N.C, along with a number of international cities..."
